If you go back to page 6, 2nd paragraph, the author defines "context-embedded discourse" (contextualized) as the type of discourse which takes place in familiar situations. By that I undertand that the contextualized use of language is the "day by day" or regular use of it, whether written (notes, to do lists)or spoken, and the speakers rely on social convention and contextual information to communicate, consequently it can be learned faster because it does not depend a lot on knowledge of language code, genre types. On the other hand, "context-reduced discourse" (descontextualized)relies on the latter. The context is unfamiliar and examples would be prepared speeches, sermons in oral discourse, carefully published or edited written work, which of course demand more from the users of the language and takes more time to be learned.
