Subject: "Dad? Uncle Johnny was hurt too, wasn't he?" Chris DeSoto...

asked yet again, wondering why it was taking his father so long to answer the simple question.

"Yes, Chris...your Uncle Johnny was also hurt."

The answer came from behind the boy. He turned, recognizing the voice, looking at Dixie.

"Well then come on..." Chris reached for her hand. "Me and Jen have to go visit Uncle Johnny too."

"I'm afraid you can't..." Dixie began, stooping down.

"Why not?" Chris demanded to know, stomping his foot angrily.

"Well..." Dixie started to respond.

"Dixie!" JoAnne gasped, shaking her head no.

"Dix...!" Roy called out anxiously, pushing himself up onto his elbows.

"...because he's not here at Ramapart..." The Head Nurse continued, seemingly ignoring both Roy and JoAnne.

"Where is he?" Chris asked.

"At another hospital..." Dixie explained.

"Oh." Chris said, with a frown.

Dixie gave his hand a squeeze. "Hey now...there's no need for that big old frown. Some very good friends of mine are taking care of your Uncle Johnny."

"And they'll help him get all better, right!" Chris piped up, then without waiting for a response, added. "Maybe tomorrow, me and Jen can go over to that other hospital and visit Uncle Johnny."

"Maybe so...we'll have to wait and see..." Dixie smiled, giving Chris a quick hug. "Go on now...scoot!"

"Okay Nurse Dixie!" Chris called out, as he darted off.

Stepping forward, JoAnne pushed closed the door with considerable force, then turned an angry look at Dixie.

"How could you do something like that! How could you lie to my son!? Letting him think that Johnny is alive...is only going to make it that much worse when WE have to tell him the truth!"

"I know you meant well, Dix..." Roy said, his voice a bit more calm. "...but..."
