] Date Posted: 06:44:13 12/25/07 Tue We spend a whole year hiding in our own safe, or sacred place, afraid to share with fellow mankind. Oh, we talk to others, but we rarely share ourselves so freely or givingly as we do at this time of year. This event, that comes once a year, is the very thing that brings us so much peace within ourselves, and I wonder why we don't as fellow humans share this more often throughout the year. Sooo, in light of this being Christmas day, I am wondering how many Christmas Spirit Stories we can share with one another, if to only bring a smile to our hearts, then it is certainly worth telling. Here is mine for Christmas 2007. As, most of you know, my grandmother is in the hospital, with a diagnosis of cancer, and the bleak news that she has two months left to live. Ahh, there is the key word "live", and so we all decided to make this the most special Christmas for her, for us, and create as many wonderful memories as we can. In the bed next to my grandmother, lay a 94 year old woman, who seemingly has no family, and has been alone since she arrived there. She lay in her same clothes she arrived with, changing into hospital gowns for nightly bed attire. Each day, she watches as people file in and out to visit my grandmother. So, in the spirit of Christmas, mom and I packaged a nice Christmas pajama for the elderly lady, and a light up little snowman trinket. My youngest son presented the older lady with these gifts. Each of us wished her a Merry Christmas and gave her a hug and a kiss on the cheek. The elder lady was so moved by the gesture, she began to sob. The nurse, upon passing the room noticed the elder lady crying. She came in and asked her if she was ok, to which the elder lady replied, "These are strangers and look, they've given me gifts, and made me feel like part of their family. They have made me feel so special and have made me believe that Christmas is still alive." After her talk with the nurse, she got up, and went to wash and proudly adorn her newly coveted Christmas pajamas. She asked the nurse if she could have her clothes washed, since she had nothing to change into, and no one to bring her anything else. My grandmother looked over to her roommate and said, "Merry Christmas!" Then we took pictures of her and my kids, and my grandmother and the family. It was a time to "celebrate life", as it should be each day, every day. The day was perfect, and our hearts were overflowing with love, kindness and a new appreciation for life. Each of the kids were filled with the beauty of sharing, caring, giving and Christmas Spirit. And that's my story for this beautiful season. May all your hearts be aglow with the spirit of Christmas, as surely as ours were. That's my wish for you all. Merry Christmas everyone! Hugs and love, Tammy [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |

Date Posted: 11:42:31 12/25/07 Tue ~ ((((((((((((Tamz girl))))))))))) what a gorgeous story this is, so beautiful I was moved to tears... it reminds me of a time earlier this year when my kids and I were visiting my sister inlaw in hospital after her op - there was this elderly lady across the room from my sis-inlaw, and she was ill, and throwing up into a little tub. She had pressed the buzzer thing and no nurse came, so I excused myself from Ness's bedside and went to help the elderly lady. I got her another couple of tubs, a face cloth, towel, and sat with her and gently rubbed her back to let her know she wasn't alone, while she was vomiting into yet another tub...the poor thing, my heart went out to her, and after about 20 minutes a nurse came, and took over. The elderly lady was really touched that I did that, but it was a really beautiful moment for me to be able to help her...thank you so much for sharing your story here, as it gifted me two-fold...I love that! I hope your Christmas Day is everything you wish it to be, hon our day was yesterday, and I spent it at home, while the kids went out with my ex, for his family's Christmas breakfast, so that was cool for them..and for me as I was able to have some quiet time to relax, and prepare the Christmas trifle (which rocked btw...he he) So, I don't have a story as such, but we did write Christmas cards for Jock & Marie (our neighbours at the top of the driveway), and to Bill (our neighbour who lives across the driveway)...so that felt good, to give them a little something. a beautiful post, Tamz...loved it!!! *love 'n' hugs* Sash xxx ![]() . |

Date Posted: 13:00:45 12/28/07 Fri Tammy, I read this the other day and just breezed through it again today. So sad, yet, so giving are your words and the wisdom contained in the reflective voice of your blog. Life is always richer when we reflect upon those things that we were so freely given back when we had no idea of their true worth. That's the essence of giving; that the value of the gift grows with the passing of time. My heart and prayers are with you and yours. Miss ya, my dear friend! hugs, andy |
