I traffic in desertion.
In endless shading of umber-
Shadow plays with no
participants but me,
no stage, no curtain, no love.

Thirsty for words, my throat
thatched with promises I've broken,
dragging chains with half-hearted teeth
marks, my heart smudged, sullied.

I'm cobbling my excuses, the
only participant, the
waste, simile for my soul.
