Subject: Spooks! (1953)

The Stooges are private eyes with the Super Sleuth Detective Agency, and George B. Bopper hires them to find his missing daughter, Bea Bopper. The Bea Bopper name inspires Shemp in a funny bit featuring him speaking in 1950s hep cat lingo.

The Stooges take the Bopper case and, disguised as three pie salesman, end up at a scary old mansion where Bea Bopper (Norma Randall) is held captive by a mad scientist, complete with laboratory ("what a silly way to make tea") and a gorilla.

In 1953 the big new trend was 3D, and Spooks was the first of two Stooges shorts to utilize the 3D feature (Pardon My Backfire was the other). Spooks includes numerous shots of objects (pies, knifes, etc) being hurled directly at the camera, a signature of the 3D format.

"Dr Jeckyl? We must hide!"

All in all a fun filled short in the spookiest Stooges tradition. Watch out for the Shemp-faced bat!

Tim
