Hi Chris -

Thanks for the kind remarks - last week I was in San Francisco on KUSF and at the Red Vic Theater, where we talked about this subject of "schools of music - branding and styles of promotion" - the old New Orleans scene in the 1920s, up the river through St. Louis, Chicago - then the Philadelphia scene in the 1950s - all the different places where a new evolution of message or musical development was taking place. Hamburg was a place where bands could work seven days a week. it shaped the Beatles (where they got their chops) and other subsequent rock groups and musicians who passed through there. The monks were the only example of the German/American collaboration - who also passed through Hamburg and Germany. In one and a half years we had three night off, when we didn't work. In Hamburg we were unaware of the San Francisco scene, which was unaware of Hamburg - but because of Hamburg, everyone was aware of the Beatles. Because of our lyrics and "irritating minimalism", we were not acceptable to American distributors - still the evolution of the language continued and still it evolves even more in other places. It was a great experience - and we all managed to survive it.

Thanks,

Eddie
