Subject: Race for Revenge

Speed Racer is preparing for the upcoming Race at Danger Pass when his Mach-5 is passed by a mysterious black car, recklessly traveling more than 220 mph. Some of the memorable moments in this suspenseful episode include:

"I think that car means bad luck. I hope it's not for me".

The rogue race car causes the crash of a vehicle driven by a racing official, then leaves behind an "X-3" calling card.

The X-3 strikes again, wrecking another prominent racing official.

Speed Racer passes the police in hot pursuit of the X-3. He loses track of the car near a flower shop in the city.

The railroad crossing guard lowers, catching the "driver" of the X-3.

The driver is a robot, and the car is apparently operated by remote control.

Thanks to a recording by Spritle, it is revealed that the haunting phrase the robot keeps repeating is "Malange Still Races.."

Pops Racer recalls that 15 years ago there was a car called The Malange entered in the Danger Pass race. It was cut off by a competing race car and crashed, killing the driver, Flash Marker. He left behind two children, Flash Marker Jr and Lily Marker.

In the Secret Factory beneath their home, Flash alters the face of the X-3 to look like the original Malange racer.

Intent on avenging his father's death, Flash Jr forces his sister Lily to drive the Malange in the Danger Pass race.

The race begins with Lily entered under the name Miss Julie and Flash operating the Malange car by remote control from a helicopter overhead.

In part one's cliffhanger conclusion, Flash attempts to run Speed off the road with The Malange.

A moment of comic relief features Pops nervously pacing back and forth while holding Spritle and Chimm Chimm.

Midway through the race Speed discovers that Trixie is hidden in the trunk of the Mach-5. He had expected to find Spritle there, who is known to stowaway.

Flash's gunfire causes an avalanche.

A second avalanche injures Speed. Thinking Speed is dead, Flash continues on to try and win the race by remote control.

Trixie drives the Mach-5 while Speed jumps aboard The Malange to try and stop it.

Speed climbs up on the hood to find the remote control center, but before he can stop it The Malange careens off a cliff at Danger Pass. Everyone fears he is dead, but he landed in the water, surviving. Flash, however, dies when his helicopter crashes into a mountainside.

Good story, Tim. The original manga or comic had Flash Junior surviving the helicopter crash and the final Three Roses Club driver alive confessed to him that he killed his father, Flash Sr, in the race 15 years ago.

Flash Jr lived, and willingly regretted what he did and Speed took him to the police and said as soon as he got out, he'd come home again. He tells Speed to look after Lilly.

The filmed story was made different with Flash Junior's death setting a more severe penalty than in the comic strip.

You'll notice the sound of the Mach 5's engine was changed for these two episodes, since they installed a new, supercharged engine. It sounds like pre-NASCAR.
