Aelita, you really put forward some good information here. It is important to have a gender specialist and endocrinologist involved to make sure that hormone blockers are appropriate and then that damage is not done to the child's body.

Puberty blockers are important for those children that are transgender--the gender they are in their mind is in complete disagreement with their body. Allowing puberty to move forward would start them on the road to developing the 'secondary sex characteristics' that are commonly associated with adults. For males, it is the broadening of the shoulders, development of the Adam's apple, and deepening of the voice among others. None of these young girls want to look like that.

When it comes to the cost, one should look at the net costs that will be incurred. My wife and I have a best friend who transitioned in her 30's and she had to spend a huge amount of money and do several additional surgeries to make her features feminine and reverse the secondary sex characteristics that came about in puberty. So a cost of $15,000 for puberty blockers (which will also help avoid depression and increase happiness) is not as much as having to spend $35,000 later just to make the face more feminine.
