I thought interesting your question concerning power. In my opinion it would be great if English native speakers could also respect other people's cultures and rules of communication but I think this is difficult to happen. However, it's important for us to reflect on this.
What I reflected upon when I read the text and helped my group to prepare the ppt presentation was that, as teachers, we should talk more about cultural aspects to the students while teaching. I think we focus too much on stuctural aspects like grammar, vocabulary and we forget differences in cultural aspects. Maybe we should give more attention to those aspects and help the students to understand that to avoid miscommunication they also need to consider culture besides grammar, vocabulary, listening, reading and writing. We tend to think that if we are fluent, we have no problems, we are able to communicate in any situation.
Being aware of CCP helps teachers and learners, so cross-cultural communication must take part of our classes.
