We've got "journalists" like Tiffany Craig already inciting whatever "controversy" they can with a ridiculous expose piece on how offensive the other meaning of a word, that is now the name of our hockey team, can be. We've got people griping like toddlers that the word is far too close to reminding us that there was a storm here.
Putting aside the arguments that you people can't put all these storm-related terms out of use because they stir up memories forever (Heaven forbid you remember an event, right?); the real crux, here, is that the word has at very least, two meanings. I know that's a real shock for the barely literate, but - you know, lots of words do. Especially in English.(You know, the only language anyone in 'mer'ca recognizes.)
I'll let you guys look it up and get that rush of satisfaction when you do it all by yourself, but it's can be used as an electrical term, as well. In fact, anything can surge. Crowds can surge, catsup can surge, even feces can surge.
Gosh, sorry, guys. I really should be more sensitive. Can we get a list of other words which might make you remember bad stuff?
Because - I don't like MRIs, so I think words like Tube or the letter X should be off limits. I also saw a broken table on the beach after the storm which reminded me of dinner. So beach, table, and dinner are all way too offensive. My great aunt has breast cancer, so I'm thinking test, chest, and anything ending in -ogram might make me super sad, so.
Also, just a quick survey...how many of you are okay with the name "Rebels"? If we're discussing how horribly offensive and insulting a name can be.
