No — Karen did not overstay her visa.
Her B2 tourist visa was still valid when she was detained.

So why was she arrested and detained?

Here’s what happened:

She and her husband Bill tried to enter Canada.

Canadian officials turned them back because of incorrect car paperwork.

When they returned to the U.S. side, border officials discovered:

Bill’s visa had expired

Karen’s visa had NOT expired

Despite this, U.S. border officials:

Detained both of them.

Told Karen she was being held because she was “guilty by association.”

Claimed she violated the terms of her tourist visa by helping her husband pack and travel — implying she may have assisted someone who was out of status.
