• It's unfortunate but the reason why people are in the used dress market is normally because they really cannot afford to buy a new dress. If you're pricing yourself over £1000 you will find it very difficult to sell, remember a cheaper option new dress from the likes of Eileen Plater etc are in the £500-£1,000 bracket depending on height/age etc and even if it was a lightly used Gavin you're not going to find many willing to pay over that price bracket. I think the problem is (and I am generalising a bit) that Australia atm is experiencing a bit of a boom with people earning more and having a better quality of life, at least if the BBC is to be believed, than your average dancer in the UK/Ire.     • I think flights from the UK would probably fly via Brisbane, connecting flights are includd in international fares. Just did a quick search and the fare with Etihad would be £894 return from London to Gold Coast, just under $AUD1400 which is cheap, we paid about $1800 to get to Belfast for Worlds last year which is also not in our school holidays unfortunately, kids have to take time off school, but it is Worlds so that's ok, don;t know if I would take kids out of school for just a feis.   • It's not that it's hard to do. We have Feisanna that varies between states, and for some, still costly to attend. But, for us to see some really fantastic competition from the Ire, UK, US and Canada - we need to travel. We aren't really visited, through GB's, NANs, Worlds, etc. So a larger international feis like this could be really lovely - come see our country, meet our lovely dancers!     • Yes we have feisanna, but no where near as many as other countries. For example in the lead up to Worlds, we have our Nationals the first week of October and then where we live there wasn't a single feis before Worlds. No opportunity to compete from October till March which is unheard of in the UK, Ireland, US, Canada etc where dancers can compete many many times before Worlds. Then when we do travel to Worlds it literally costs thousands of dollars just for dancer/Mum airfare, then there's everything else on top of that like hotel, food and all the usual expenses that go with Worlds. In laws should be glad your dd loves dance as much as she does, far more endearing than an overstressed child who sees dance as a chore because of all the pressure put on her. • My DD moved schools and the parents and children from previous school have been brilliant, teachers on the other hand don't speak. This does not bother me at all, they will get over it. During the Worlds there were postings on here about certain judges who were not qualified to judge in the posters opinion due to the fact that they hadn't produced world medal winners previously. • I totally agree with OP. But I realistically cannot see how the political aspect will ever diminish, and I think it has become exacerbated through the years. I am under no illusion on that - affiliations and networking. Isn't that all part of ID now - unfortunately?My DD loves ID and that is primary, however we as parents would love to see her get her day - will it ever happen? Possibly or possibly not! I expect some parent to write - 'get out if you're not happy with it' but life is not that simple and not about the parents in this case. When a DD is so passionate about her hobby and so so dedicated you cannot remove her. Sometimes I regret my decision of introducing her to this political, extremely commercialised world. On the other hand I see her confidence, the friends she has made, the talent that she is, the commitment and dedication of her TCs and I know that being 1st is ultimately secondary; her love of ID and her happiness is paramount.
