Having lived in both America and the UK, I have always been fascinated with how the wigs and makeup came to be. In my opinion, it is definitely a reflection of the culture in the uk more so than America. I live in California where is the style is very later back and natural. When I went to the uk, I was shocked by the crazy tan and makeup. It made me realize that the craziness of the “Irish dancer look” is a reflection of the current culture and style of the girls in the uk. This articles blaming the power being “Americanized” for its crazy makeup and wigs is so untrue. As a dancer in America, we have always been told to follow what the girls in the uk and Ireland are doing so let’s stop blaming Americans for crazy wigs and tans
