Subject: they would have to justify the 30% failure could mean reporting them to trading standards
In reply to: Laura 's message, "Legal position" on 14/01/26 19:08:00, Wed

That can be considered misleading or an unfair commercial practice, which is unlawful under consumer protection rules in NI.
A 30% increase is high, and the supplier must justify it with: Increased material costs Extra labour required Unforeseen issues Clear breakdown of why the estimate changed
If they cannot justify it, you can challenge it.
Did they take a deposit before telling you the price would rise?

If they accepted a deposit based on the estimate, then later increased the price dramatically, Trading Standards may view that as:
Misleading Unfair breach of professional diligence

You can argue that you relied on the estimate in good faith.

  • You all need to go on Elite FB page and comment underneath. It’s the only way to fight this. No point in doing it on the board. (NT) -- Terrible behaviour !, 14/01/26 19:31:03, Wed
