Every bit counts, so in relation to the dress, we did buy from Gavin, but just got the un-stoned dress delivered and bought the stones ourselves and put them on the dress, this alone saves hundreds.

For wigs and makeup, did it ourselves, never paid to have either put on by someone else.

Travel is hard, but we sometimes shared accom with another mum and dancer and always did things like make out own breakfast in room. If domestic travel, I even bought a cheap toaster to make toast in room! Took bowls, spoons, butter knife etc in luggage, made sandwiches to take on day of feis.

The more you can do yourself, the more you will save, but agree it is very expensive and even more so now. My daughters both have young children now and none of them are doing Irish dance because of the expense and the general climate of it re the cheating scandal and nothing being done about it.
