Subject: This isnt something trivial, this is the point !

I keep seeing people respond to the current issues in the dancing world with variations of “bigger things are going on in the world” or “people need to get better things to worry about.” What this entirely misses is that the so-called “bigger things” are precisely what are being reproduced within this smaller community.

The global economic crisis does not exist in abstraction. It manifests in micro-economies like ours. When those at the top are profoundly out of touch with the realities of cost-of-living pressures, it becomes starkly apparent. Watching individuals with significant wealth raise payments, while publicly boasting about ditching the "cheap parents", and offloading families to other dressmakers, is not just tone-deaf; it is morally indefensible. That behaviour is not leadership. It is exploitation.

In an era where people are genuinely struggling to keep the lights on, someone with that level of financial security should be looking outwards, not further consolidating power and profit within a small, captive market. Dancing has always been framed as a space of respite; a break in the chain of an increasingly brutal world, a cultural refuge built on community, heritage, and pride. What we are seeing now is the opposite: a pageantry of money-grabbing that mirrors the worst excesses of the wider economic system.

Our community is geographically vast but structurally small.
People notice. And people remember.

There are also serious questions to be asked about organisations encouraging travel into countries with extreme immigration enforcement and documented violence at borders. For some families, this is not a neutral or “fine” decision; it carries real risk, real fear, and potentially devastating consequences. To dismiss those concerns as overreaction is to ignore lived reality.

This is meant to be about culture, continuity, and collective pride. Instead, it is becoming something many are quietly ashamed to be associated with.

The most galling part is that this is being driven by adults!

People who should know better, and who should do better. Silence and minimisation only enable further harm. If this community is to survive with any integrity intact, these issues cannot simply be brushed aside as trivial in the face of “bigger problems.” They are part of the same problem. A problem that has to be more widely acknowledged and actively challenged.
