The credibility of our sport was put under the spotlight in the last number of years and unfortunately despite sound bites under pressure from the media nothing has changed with even some of the cheats going legal almost bankrupting the sport to save their face.
Yesterday’s Feis was a prime example of what goes on. Everyone knew the cronies controlling the results - judges and associated teachers that had a strong presence.
Nepotism and favouritism bared for all to see with lots of schools
Avoiding or playing the game and sending one or two
Dancers . Simply a matter of look after the cronies and the other dancers shuffle in behind even though some are much better. It tears the heart out of the sport. What’s the answer I’m not sure …but the relationships should be declared for all judges and teachers and independence has to shine though for more transparency and accountability. Integrity is totally missing and the blatant nepotism sickening. I just couldn’t do that they do. How do they hold their head up ? With such a small world of irish dancing it’s hard to achieve but it must be striven for with options discussed.
The alternative is left like yesterday where we have a staged event with results known bar the shouting after the cronies have been looked after and beautiful dancers being disgruntled with cronie premadonas criminally getting into podiums and positions they embarrassingly don’t deserve. Maybe everyone should just go to their own staged events … sad and angry
