Author: Come on now.
Subject: I get almost all of the criticisms I’ve seen about some high placers except the comments about cross and turnout. I disagree that these dancers have poor footwork.

The most unhealthy thing being pushed on dancers now is extreme cross and turnout. It is not natural for toes and feet to be twisted the way they are while staying on the tips of their toes and not bending knees or dropping heels upon landing.

We are setting up our dancers to be crippled like so many of the obese, waddling TCs and ADs who can barely stand anymore after wrecking their bodies over bad technique. If we are asking our dancers to do gymnastic leaps and jumps, then at least allow the heel to temporarily drop to absorb the landing. So many dancers when standing with heels together had their toes pointing in opposite directions. A little turnout is aesthetic. This looked deformed and unnatural.
