Subject: Adjudicator docking marks for dancer in own region

In a small region like ours, results and patterns are very clear, and this situation stands out. One of our dancers has consistently ranked at or near the top from a young age and is widely recognized as having strong potential.

At the most recent major competition, one adjudicator—affiliated with another school in the same region—awarded this dancer a mark that was completely out of line with the rest of the panel for a round. It was not a marginal difference; it was an extreme outlier and resulted in the lowest score this dancer has ever received. Given that this adjudicator has previously seen this dancer perform successfully, the score is difficult to justify as an objective assessment.

We have also observed similarly inconsistent scoring at several feiseanna leading up to this major, involving adjudicators with known connections to that same school. The pattern is concerning and raises questions about fairness and impartiality.

We are asking what formal steps can be taken to review or address this. Dancers should not be disadvantaged by what appears to be biased or politically influenced judging. This is occurring far too often in too many places in this sport.
