If you calculate the total number of competitions for a given feis you could simply increase the entry fee by a small amount and totally do away with the entry fee. Example: A feis with 200 dancers that charges a $15 entry would collect $3,000 in entry fees. If you reduced the entry fee to just $5 to cover the cost of the program that would reduce that amount to $2,000. If they took that figure and divided it by the number of total competitons (200 dancers with each competing in am average of 3 comps would be 600 competitions). That would equate to about $3 per competition.

I know this may seem complicated but that's probably just because of the way I am trying to explain it. I'm sure there is someone out there who could do a better job of it.

Any way, it would eliminate the unfairness to dancers who come alone and don't bring family and would also avoid the problem of having enough volunteers to sit at every entrance to check for wristbands.

Another advantage is that a feis could advertise the event as being open to the general public. This could go a long way towards giving many more people the chance to experience what Irish dance is all about. It would also give the sponsor school a chance to promote themselves when they promote the feis to the public. Could be a win-win situation for everyone. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
