As his son detailed the hell he'd gone through in the past four years, the distantly familiar sensation of rage-murderous rage--began to ignite. In the years that he'd been gone, he had settled some. No longer looking to knock the head off of every idiot that looked at him wrong, but not willing to take anyone's shit, either. And that fury he'd always seemed to walk with had abated as his demeanor mellowed.

He remained stoic, hiding the ignition that had been lit within him. The only outward sign was a subtle tightening of the jaw as his dark eyes flicked to the scars his son showed him. In that instant, he would have traded his immortal soul for the oppertunity to go the hellish country his son had been in, and hunt down every miserable piece of shit that had been responsible. If Elden hadn't done away with them himself--and he had a suspicion he had.

He didn't speak right away. Didn't trust him self too, truthfully. Though he didn't been a part of his boy's life for the majority of it, it didn't change the fact that that he loved him. No parent ever wants to think of their children being hurt, knowing they weren't there to protect them. Add to the mix that he had hurt the kid himself, and he was feeling pretty damn emotional, hung somewhere between the fury of what had been done at the hands of others, and sadness at what had been done by his own.

"Elden, I'm know you don't need this old mutt's praise...kinda loses it's effect, considering our situation. But I'm gonna give it to you anyway...because any man that makes it through that kinda hell in the name of his country...well, he deserves to hear a thank you from just about anybody willing to say it." He looked at the dead cigarette in his hand, forgotten and burned to the filter. He tossed it, and lit another, before eyeing his son again. "So thank you, for all you went through. You're more of a man than anyone I've ever known." He dragged deeply of his smoke, feeling the persistant throb of anger still pulsing through his veins. "It might not mean much...but you've made me prouder than I ever thought I could be. I can't take no credit for the man you've become...but you're the one thing that wasn't a mistake in my life. You, and your mama." Thunder rumbled ominously, and his gaze darkened. "I'd sure love to get at the bastards over there, though. For touchin' my kid." It was true...no one truly understands the protectiveness of a parent...until they become one.
