Newborn life replacing all of us
Changing this fable we live in
No longer needed here
So where do we go?
Will you take a journey tonight...
Follow me past the walls of death?
But girl, what if there is no eternal life?

He had a lot of ass-kissing to do--a very true fact. He'd fucked up and he owed for what he'd done. But he was never a man to be brushed off like so much dirt, and he wasn't about to start now. He hadn't been a good father, or ANYTHING of a father. But El was still his blood, and it mattered to him, dammit. He got out of the car, long strides carrying directly behind his boy in just a couple of seconds. Dark eyes narrowed at a dark spot on the ground, and he had a feeling that whatever had gone down here last night hadn't been good.

"Des has her own dad that can ask her about what happened to her. I'm askin' about you." Graveled voice was deadpan. He did not like the way his son was moving...a far cry from when he'd seen him yesterday. He didn't want to push the kid, not too hard--but Goddamn it, about this, he would. Concern was not an easy emotion for him, and it bothered him greatly. "You don't just snag my ride and come back walkin' like your 90 and not expect some questions, Elden. Don't work that way." His voices softened a degree. "What happened to you?" He knew he was playin' with fire, but what of it? Maybe the kid would take his concern for what it was and just realize he loved him, dammit.
