Hi Steve, well you heard I've had to eat my "words" sorta to speak with Joel scoring his first TD. I'm really happy for him. He's earned it, and if I rode him this past week and other times to "get his little ass down field and score when he's suupose to" then I'm glad he showed me up and did it because he wanted to and had to as part as his assignment on the team, besides playing all of the minutes in all the quarters.
He sure is fast, and I guess we'll have to start giving him a nickname and start calling him "speedster" like a few of the guys were in practice.
It was a great game, especially for Opening Night. Everyone seemed to be nervous, which is natural, but some more then others. Joel was trying to get is FIRED UP in the locker room when Coach leaves us for some quiet and thinking time. I think his pre-game "talk" and "cheers" got us motivated!
I thought I did pretty good playing, but scewed-up on two mistackles. Coach didn't say too much, so I guess my ass is off the hook, except the TWO SWATS I get when we have out "paddling meeting" if you want to call it that.
I was ready to play. At least it was only two I made. I'll work harder this week. Thought everyone was well prepared both on offense and defense.
I thought for sure Joel was going to have the earlier TD, but the ball when he was trying to catch it on another long pass fell off his finger tips when he had a little extra pressure with a BIG opposing tackler coming at him. Joel held his own when tackled and got right back up and scampered back to the huddle. Maybe we can nickname him the "Scamp" too?
I'm glad we scored as many points as we did. After the second TD the other team kinda acted like they were giving up. With a halftime score 21-0 I bet for sure they got their asses scewed out by their coaches for sure!

Our Coach was cool pretty much most of the night. Just a few times he "popped off".
Before the game, that aftenoon Coach had a pre-game pizza party for us. Joel hollers later on, "do we get pizza all of the time, Coach?" I think it was nice that he did that. Joel, however, said it "was a bribe for us to win." That little sucker. "It was a nice gesture" I told him, and that our team doesn't have to except pizza before each game.
However, next week is an away game and usually after the game we'll be given food by our parents, like last year when we had an "after game tailgate party."
We had one of those last night, too, even at home, and sure had some great food.
That's all for now. Guess we gotta get ready to go to help coach the YMCA Youth football team, then afterwards we have to each of us guys that made mistakes "pay" for them with the paddle. I think Joel will be ready before anyone else to bare ass. "Team Spirit" he calls it!
Let you know how it went, probably Sunday night or Monday morning before practice as I have the pleasure of Mr. Joel as a houseguest in a sleepover. Take care.
