Hey Steve-I finally have a few answers to why Joel says he doesn't want to be on the Homecoming Court, and possibly be elected King on Friday night during halftime.
It took some doing. I finally had to go back to my original offer I told him that I would pound his ass if he didn't tell what the problem is and serve on the Court.
After he and I did some weekend practice skills, passes to him, etc. I finally told him enough was enough. I grabbed him, through him over my knee and yanked down his workout shorts and pairs of boxers he's been wearing and told him I would pound his bare ass if he didn't give me an answer or answers.
He said he would, and before I let him up I gave him a hard, sharp slap of my hand on one of his asscheeks. Boy, for a few seconds it left an imprint of my hand on his cheek, not surprising as Joel, myself and the rest of the guys have been trying to get our sore asses back to normal from the licks we took Friday night in the loss, and to help ease pain we've been wearing extra boxers to help and have finally got natural color back and red faded away from the paddle swats we took. I let him up and as he pulled his clothes back on here's what he told me, and I can see his point of being upset and believe him!
Alot of kids who did not vote for Joel, but say they voted for others in their circle (which is really the "click group" I told you about that exists), went to Joel after hearing the names of those voted/selected and heard Joel's name, told him he is not worthy and good enough to be on the Homecoming Court.
They said all that Joel has done for the school is play four years of sports: football, basketball and baseball, and nothing else. Why should he be elected and rewarded as a member of the Homecoming Court for just that. The last guy to be elected, not Joel, should be someone who could play sports, but also serve and benefit the school by being an active member of clubs, organizations or service clubs that could bring pride to the school because of their work, and not just play sports to.
Joel said he was told by some kids that he got elected only as a member of the homecoming court was because if I got elected on the court and he didn't that his feelings would be hurt, because we do alot of things together, and that I helped buy votes probably for him.
Joel said these kids that came to him told him he should step aside and let another guy be selected/elected that would bring pride to the school.
Steve, all the accusations about Joel are untrue. Joel wants to be on the homecoming court and possibly be the King, so kids shouldn't accuse him of things. He'd really rather let some other guy be King. He says he doesn't need the title, and would be happy for someone else to be.
Joel got elected on his own name, it was not because someone helped him or bought him votes. It must have been because students like Joel for who is, not for who he might become to win everyone over in different ways.
Fine if Joel only played sports for four years, and not belong to clubs, orgainzations, etc., it was because he only wanted to play sports and felt he had time just for that, and not have time or want to belong to clubs, etc.
Joel has been an honor student for the past three years and is going for year number four his senior year. That shows school pride and in his studies to achieve that honor which not everyone can do.
Joel never thought or sought to be elected to the homecoming court. The honor came and was given to him by students voting for him because they thought he would be a good member to have on it because they liked him.
Joel says he thanks the students who voted for him. For whatever reason they did, he hopes it was because of his friendships he tries to have with the kids, and if his sports playing brings them happiness to watch, besides pride for the school in wins or if losses occur he says he tries to show good sportsmanship conduct in himself and display it on behalf of the school.
Joel was told by kids that he's going to embarass the school Friday night when its read that he only played sports for the school and has done nothing else to benefit the school.
Again, Joel didn't seek selection/election to the homecoming court, students gave him enough votes on their own to win him the honor, and if there is any embarrassment about Joel only playing sports and nothing else, he will take the embarassment and it should not be the school looked upon.
Joel says he wants to be on the homecoming court as the school would not have enough guys on it, and he didn't want to disappoint the girl he will be paired up with on the homecoming court so she has a partner and date. He is looking forward to it. Joel says he is looking forward to bring pride and recognition to his parents, as they share in this honor for him and his school.
Joel says it was stupid to let kids get to him over the situation that has come about because he was elected, and if they don't like him, then they don't like him for whatever reason, even if they think a better candidate could be found to replace him. That person never got enough votes to overcome Joel and get elected, did they?So other people shouldn't be jealous of Joel.
Another reason Joel is willing to be on the homecoming court is so Kyle or others won't call him a "whoose" if he doesn't serve.
So Steve, Joel has pretty much covered just about everything to try to make amends. He thinks also, letting this situation get to him and not keep a clear head when he played football last Friday night contributed to him making mistakes, along with other players, and contributed to the team not receiving a win in conference play. Since then he has been working his ass off, along with quarterback Sean, who feels he contributed to the loss as well for the team, and hope they can get the team back on track for winning a homecoming victory Friday night and everyone can enjoy a great homecoming dance Saturday night!
So Steve, care to comment?
I think we have ou ole buddy Joel back that you and I like to see and hear from.
If not, I can start pounding his ass to get him back on track more, and get him ready to enjoy and celebrate homecoming week. We both are entered in a pie-eating contest against other football team members at the prep rally on Friday.
