That was my mom's dad and yes I am sure both my mom and my aunt were spanked growing up. Although I was never told about any specific instances, my grandmother was openly critical of my dad for not spanking us when we were younger.

I don't know the numbers but you know how it is when a couple of schools get sued everyone else thinks they could be next and so they all take steps to protect themselves. As far as the motivations of the parents, I am more inclined to believe that some parents are looking for easy money. Yes there could be a teacher or principal who went too far but I don't believe that's the rule.

I never asked but consider this. When you get it on your butt, eventually the pain recedes enough that you can pull your pants back up and all the marks are covered. Getting it on the back of your thighs is almost like a double whammy in that the marks left behind aren't going to be covered up.
