She'd seen it once or twice before, and had no idea what the plot was- but it gave her something to pretend to focus on. His knock made her jump almost out of her skin; she had been too caught up in her thoughts to remember her guest momentarily. She waited a minute before scurrying into the room, the pajamas her ever-helpful concierge had sent up draped over one arm. The pajamas, of shining green silk, she stretched across her bed, smoothing out the wrinkles in the bedcovers with a practiced, habitual gesture. She folded his clothes in one of her bathrobes and threw the load into the dryer, putting it onto its highest setting. That finished, she found her way into the kitchen, putting a kettle on the stove. Mmmhm. Now was the time for tea.
