He had caught the emotions that had passed through her gaze as he'd mentioned life on the inside, and realized just how little he truly knew about the woman he loved. Their relationship had kicked off with wickedly good sex, and nothing more. Then he'd fallen for her...but had he really ever asked her much about where she'd come from, what she'd seen? The woman had lived a mind bogglingly long lifetime...had he truly been that shallow, rthat narrow-minded that he'd never tried to find out her origins? He filed that away in the back of his mind...it was a discussion for another time, but near in the future.

It seemed they had all done well for themselves, and he was relieved to hear that they were being successful. It meant that the sacrifice he'd made had meant something at least, even if it had been done all wrong. "Good. I'm glad they did something besides play cat and mouse with the Feds. That's what I feared." He looked at her and grinned. "I can't believe Sphinx's boy enlisted. Must take after Sasha. Good for him."

The kids were really the ones that had gotten burnt out of all of this. The wives and lovers had been spurned, of course, but the kids had been too young to understand. He felt guilty about that, but didn't voice it. "Do you 'spose you'd want to go to the club? For old time's sake?" He doubted any of them would be there, save for maybe Stan's wife. He just wanted something familiar...something that felt like home.
