His lips tugged up as the words tumbled off her tongue easily. She was feeling safe enough to talk at length now but was still mindful to her manners. He let the silence consume them for only a second before he spoke. “And what did you think was more important than your own happiness?” The belief that others should always come before you was an infectious disease that Lezedi was fortunate enough not to suffer from. He always came first. Even amongst his family. If the warehouse burned down he’d slide out a window first before turning back to help someone else out. Because if he pushed them through first he’d be burned to death and what would be the fun in that? If you’re not going to strive for happiness in yourself; no one else is going to. And you’ll end up with an empty life that you filled with other’s priorities and that’s just a sad way to die. And burning to death is a horrible way to die. He wanted to know why she was in Cascade but she wasn’t really telling him the information he needed to know. She was skimming the painful topic and blocking him out from vital information. The waiter shifted through the steamed door and began to stalk in their direction. Lezedi’s eyes brushed past Natasha and watched him only for a moment. Then, grayer than before, the shifted back on the woman’s face.
