August had revealed itself to be a traitor among the summer months. It was morning, but first light was still hours away. It was chilly and unlike summer. The air was humid and moisture and stuck to everything it had a chance to come into contact with. Zeth could feel the little beads of it collecting on his cold face. He made no effort to remove them. He wished he could hold back the burning desire that nagged at his conscience. He felt a guilt but a sense of accomplishment. It was these feelings that spurred his movements down the dark alleyways. He stepped over bricks of a tall building that had crumbled in the darkness. He wove an intricate and followable path through the darkness. It was 5:30 and he had no where else to be so it was a welcome scene to find the scarlet building's light still burning. Shadows were cast by the flights of insects that collided with the bulbs and fell down to the earth. But there attempts would never be translated. Zeth wondered briefly, as his hand met with the door's handle, what those insects had done for entertainment before Edison had come along.

There was a spark of recognition that the door was still unlocked. He hadn't expected anything else but surely there was a closing time. He stepped in and shrugged off his gray lightweight jacket. This action revealed the black buttoned vest and the white collared shirt he'd taken from his studio a half hour ago. He brushed brown tennis shoes against the entrance carpet before stepping further into the empty bar. He remembered the layout and the structure and noted the changes with a quick glance. He moved to the closest chair and threw his jacket over it. He took a seat. He needed some liquid courage to help him get home to Alicia.
