About voting in Iraq… will elections change anything?
Will elections in Iraq change anything at all? To the terrorist not a thing. It is pointless and useless to talk laws, social order, and social stability to people that kill innocent people with full intent to destabilize that country. No matter who gets elected, and no matter what laws are formed the terrorist do not want a publicly elected government that is inclusive way beyond gender, political, and religious garbage.
The terrorist intent , and it is effective, is to intimidate by violence as many people as they can NOT to vote or partake in voting of a Iraq national government. An election if held in January is not going to change the terrorist mind nor their savage and barbarous tactics. ZIPPO. Elections will not bring peace because free people spoke, how silly to think other wise… how shallow… how ignorant of any one to say so, like Bush. Only the enforcement of laws with teeth brings peace. The quality of peace is determined by the what those laws are.
The majority of Iraq people want to vote for a government of their choice and willing to risk their life in doing so. Why? Because they want their own government to rule, by their own people, to have authority and NOT the USA, and NOT the terrorist.
SO what if a large number of Iraq people can not vote, at this time, out of intimidation or other wise? NO big deal at all. Voting is a civil liberty, a legal freedom in a modern society NOT a mandatory act performed at gun point. That means you also have the right NOT to vote for any reason and NO recourse other than you had NO SAY in how a government is formed, run, and performs its duty for the people. You had No say as to your self interest, be it personal or national.
There are safe guards that the interim Iraq government has set in place ALL READY that for any reason you can not, or will not vote, in the up coming election you can in the next one. AND people are free to organize them self in a “peaceful manor” to change and alter any laws or government they desire at any time.
Just like in the USA recently. The residence of California kicked out a governor in mid term, held NEW elections, and reestablish a new Governor and cabinet to their liking and NOT one shot was fired. And NOT every one voted. NO one was drug though the streets, NO houses blown up, NO random killings, and NO military action. The Police—the social back bone of law and order—LOVED IT. NO big deal to them and NO special calls to duty, just every day life in the USA.
These election safe guards, a safety net you might say, in the “interim” Iraq government are “laws” to be handed to the new Iraq government to do with as they see fitting---AFTER legal elections.
BY all means let the people VOTE on time according to the LAWS created by the interim USA backed government in Iraq. It will validate a process of choosing a government with international recognition that the Iraq people can be proud over that performed their rights. Even if one third of the country votes—let the election stand for what it is.
With that authority of an elected Iraq government let happen what may as the ball is in their court. If all goes well, as well as expected, there will plenty more elections to fallow. It is only reasonable if more terrorist can get killed or jailed the more the public can freely partake in the right of peaceful assembly, free speech, and freedom of the press to what ever ends they, as citizens of a country, so desire.
Laws without teeth are NOT laws at all. It is against the LAW as established by the interim USA backed government to stop, or physically intimidate, or hinder an other person into not voting or to control that vote. So we are at war with terrorist for that very reason.
If terrorist prevent a large number of people from voting it is sad yes, but that has NOTHING to do with the legal actions of those Iraq people that did, or able, to vote.
The fact is you can not reason with terrorist. NO law, No civility, No humanities, and NO nothing at all will stop them using intellectual endeavors. So the only thing left is the enforcement of laws that may have brutal consequences to them. So they should not complain if captured, tried, and found guilty that they should be permanently eliminated from a free and peaceful society.
Only good can come from national elections even if it is just international recognition of a legal government. The responsibility of a free people is that they might make a mistake as seen in the California governor so they (Iraq people) are free to make a correction by VOTING, and that means free assembly, free speech, and the press to name a few common freedoms. Elections means by far more than a government, but rather the freedoms to be living as an individual and free creatures as what we are.
Here in the USA we can change a government and laws if we the people do not like them but we will not change our right to vote. Even if less than 50% of the people do not vote, for any reason, it does NOT invalidate those that did vote as a public expression of their freedoms. You don’t like what happened in the election? Then vote next time and get with the program of human freedoms.
So we say the same thing to the Iraq people—not that we are perfect by any means—but rather we cherish freedoms and we want to pass it on. Perhaps we are being nosey and sticking our ideas where they don’t belong in a foreign country. TOO bad. Once a legal elected government is established in Iraq then the USA will be committed to respect and honor that government and the laws it passes for it own benefit.
Suppose if the newly elected government in Iraq ask us to get all of our troops OUT of their country we can do so with pride and NO recourse as we honored the vote of the Iraq people that made that government. We did our self proclaimed job and changed that country—even if temporarily—from a brutal dictator, and terrorist breeding mentality, to free elections. That would be the price we are willing to pay from free elections and the government that it produces.
But also be it known that NO terrorist will allow for free speech, freedom of assembly, freedom of ideas, and of the press—and NO voting. As terrorist in Iraq now act so will be any government that they produce if given the chance. If anything the USA should make a greater commitment in troops and aid of all kinds---unbending till Iraq has its elected government. Then we can sit back and see what happens and act accordingly.
Are we giving freedoms to the Iraq people? HELL NO. We can not give what they all ready have from their birth. We the USA are NOT a god giving freedoms and dignity to human life. We are there to enforce the law of peaceful assembly, voting, and free speech as long as violence or indications of violence exist under the legalities of the interim Iraq government. It is up to the people of Iraq to decide what they want, for better or worse, as even our founding presidents and leaders made it very clear--- a democracy is a great experiment—NO guarantees. But the People having a voting right can change and decide for them self.
And if only 40% or even 30% of the people vote—that is the law and the vote stands and it is accepted with NO recourse. But the other 60% to 70% can still assemble, free speech, free exchange of ideas, and VOTE if they feel inclined—BUT NO violence. We do not need formal elections to voice our opinions, and desires, to assemble, and express our ideas in agreement, or disagreement with others. But violence and destruction of property is NOT allowed by any one and that includes any USA government or agency in a peaceful society.
Perhaps history will show that we never should have went into Iraq for many reasons. Then let history show that. We are learning as any other people, we error and don’t make claims of perfection. And who says war is the only way to spread freedoms? How ever it is common law and common understanding to protect your self, and common knowledge to have personal freedoms, and rights expressed as voting to have a say in your destiny and the powers that govern you. So if we erred in going into Iraq we did it on the side of what our president thought was the best at the time. And we the people can learn and change that president in due time if needed in our opinion. IF Bush gets too far out of line we, the people, can legally drag him right out of office and put in someone else. And NOT one shot will be fired and not one house burned down. We, the free people, can render any president null and void as long we do not use violence and respect the rights of others. And NO army will come in and shoot at us; even our own army is kept at a safe distance from us. Just NO violence and do the paper work and all is fine well and good. Paper work is cheaper than bullets any ways.
All and all that is not a bad idea as we love freedom as is our natural nature. Many people in the world –including Iraq-- were born in the preverbal jail of ignorance and submission to others, but they do not have to live there. If they vote to go back into social slavery then that is their choice. All I’m saying is at this time give them a chance to choose and let those that do vote, or can vote, rule as the law of the land as to the out come of the majority. And Pure hell to the terrorist by all means.
