In reply to: Don 's message, "About voting in Iraq… will elections change anything?" on 12/29/04 2:27pm

Don, you wrote >>> ... Will elections in Iraq change anything at all? ... <<<
..... Yes, voters will decide which of their politicians will draw up a new constitution, and, eventually, enact new laws. In the meantime terrorists will very likely continue to terrorise. That's what they are good at; they may have been/are unemployed otherwise.

>>> ... An election if held in January [2005?] is not going to change the terrorist mind nor their savage and barbarous tactics. ... <<<
..... They are trying to defend their country, because they have been told that the foreigners are there to steal their oil. Compare with the effects of sanctions on innocent people imposed by the UN while Saddam was still in power.

>>> ... they want their own government to rule, by their own people, to have authority and NOT the USA, and NOT the terrorist. ... <<<
..... Yes, they want all foreigners out NOW! Then, they may think, the terrorists will form their government(s), never mind the results of their voting. The strongest will win.

>>> ... The residence of California kicked out a governor in mid term, held NEW elections, and reestablish a new Governor and cabinet to their liking and NOT one shot was fired. ... <<<
..... California's voters have experienced Democracy for many years, Iraq's voters apparently think that democracy can only be worse than Saddam's rule was. The foreigners' culture is not suitable for Iraq, and "Freedom is Slavery" (Compare with "1984" by Eric Blair {he wrote books under the name "George Orwell"}).

>>> ... So we are at war with terrorist ... <<<
..... There are now 3 wars going on at the same time:
a) The war against Terror, such as 9/11,
b) The war against Drugs, and also
c) The war against Poverty.

>>> ... The fact is you can not reason with terrorist. ... <<<
..... I agree. So what's your solution?

>>> ... So the only thing left is the enforcement of laws ... <<<
..... Whose laws? The laws of Saddam? The laws of their religion, Islam? The laws of the foreigners that invaded their country and keep killing their people? They blame the killings of Iraqis by terrorists not on the terrorists ("freedom fighters???"), but on the foreigners being there as the cause of all their troubles.

>>> ... to name a few common freedoms. ... <<<
..... "Freedom is Slavery"?

>>> ... the freedoms to be living as an individual and free creatures as what we are. ... <<<
..... Maybe Iraqis living in the USA could convince them of that, and describe to them what democracy can be for Iraqis too, in time; very likely what the foreigners say would not be/is not believed.
..... By the way, you can't be religious and have FREEDOM/LIBERTY at the same time. Bush doesn't know that yet.
