I tend to look at the bigger picture. In regards to earning money Bob (in your example) does not earn any. George Bush, on the other hand, does earn money. So thus, financially, Bob and George are not equated.

However, both play an active role in society itself, just on opposite sides. Bob stimulates the economy by being helpless. How, without people like him there would be thousands, if not millions of people unemployed. Doctors, nurses, specialists, manufacuters (someone had to make Bob's bed), attendants, hospital security etc. Understand that from a financial perspective Bob does indeed contribute in his own way whether he knows it or not.

Now, George Bush, or any politician for that matter, will think nothing of using people in Bob's circumstances to their own advantage. They (the politicians) will say that they will improve medicare, hospitals etc. so that they will be able to improve the quality of life for people like Bob. This is hard to understand, but George does not care about Bob or any one else who is suffering in life. He will create the illusion so that he can gain votes to further his own agenda.

The point here is that politically and financially our society must make sure that Bob stays alive as long as possible.

To expand on this idea, Bob is a human being, so is George Bush, thus using this criterial they are equal. The difference come about in how our society determines what is or is not important. Is a person important because of wealth, intellegence, education, IQ etc. What I have notices is that these criteria of importance are all human inventions. There is no money in the animal kingdom, or religion, or IQ tests, or education etc. So, when one human is judged to be more important than another, I question the criteria because there is ample proof that not all people who posses these qualities are beneficial to our society, culture or human beings and this planet. Hitler was a highly intellegent man. Scientists who create H-Bombs, or biological weapons are also examples of well educated and highly intellegent (important) people who end up being far more dangerous to humanity than all of the Bob's in the world.

Also in regards to Bob himself. Yes it is hard for me to imagine a life where all that exists is lying in bed. But How do I know what is going through Bob's mind at any given moment. And even if i could determine whether or not he is actually suffering having an IQ of 20 I would still be judging him on my own interpretation of his condition.

The idea here is that all life is precious. Whether or not a life is deemed more important based on our cultural opinion.

If we as a society continue to reduce life to a dollar amount, it is my opinion that our society will continue to lose in the end because in reality only a small percentage of society can live up to it's own standards, thus most ideas and potential will be lost amongst the judgments and class ridicule generated by society judging itself.

Is Bobs worth only to die, I can not accuratly answer this question, so I tend to follow my heart and compassion rather than money, IQ or class.
