I'm sure there are programs like that, but the ones I've seen are not like that. Even in a situation in which a high qualify of care can be afforded, the people often moan for days on end. Many times they are merely holding cells for people that are near dead anyway; some feel it necessary for them to suffer the duration of the remainder of their lives until they die of "natural causes". I'm no advocate of this. I'm not suggesting we kill all old people or all retarded people, but just as I would readily put to sleep a dog that seemed to be suffering, I have no qualms doing the same with humans.

Not just money, although the costs of healthcare amount to quite a bit more than just a "few bucks a year per taxpayer." Take a look at how much medicare is taken out of your next check. It's really neat, considering you yourself probably aren't even on it. My argument is quality of life, AND money. I see no reason to spend money keeping people alive to suffer until they die, especially not if they themselves have a desire to end their lives. Again, I emphasize this point, I'd put my dog to sleep to save it from suffering, why shouldn't I do the same for a human?
