The following CNET link offers 18 customer reviews, several of which are a bit more critical of the system:

http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0-1027-404-20479319.html?tag=dir

Criticisms seemed to be directed at 1) customer support, 2) software package, esp. Windows XP Home, 3) gaming performance w/ATI Radeon chipset & 32MB video memory , 4) USB 1.1.

Most owners appear to be impressed w/the cooling, but one gamer quips: "HP has placed a desktop P-4 into a laptop- without using a P4-Mobile CPU and as a result this 'turkey' overheats and stops working when you are running high speed games on it." Modern games are part of my performance envelope--perhaps not the ultimate 3d games, but I wish to have decent performance w/a vast majority of games written in the next couple of years--and I take gamers' opinions carefully into consideration. Unfortunately, there are relatively few offered for notebooks. Also, gamers are generally younger and more passionate in their arguments, passionate to the point that seperation of fact and truth become difficult. Still, there are a lot of individuals out there who spend their time methodically pushing and learning about their systems, rather than polishing their communication/social skills. I want to know which notebook THESE individuals are talking about--for my purposes, this might strike the best balance. There may not be a notebook in this pricing tier that is better suited to gamers. Another thing--I've found a good deal of the complaints from power users about a particular notebook to be indicative of notebooks in general, as compared to desktops. A desktop for me is essentially out of the question--the usage of a system that confines me to one room would not justify its cost. I need to locate more info. on current and future notebook graphics chipset & memory packages, and more reviews for this and comparable machines.

FYI - one of the reviewers is successfully running a $60 USB 2.0 card on this system.
