Hi, Ann. Foster care was wonderful for me. I was in a small town, but the foster family I got moved to was in a larger city, not huge but definitely bigger than my little hometown. I had two foster families. The one I got assigned to first was okay, but it was more of an emergency placement. They had a lot of kids in and out and did a great job helping me deal with the whole shock to my life and everything. I was only there for two months before I got placed with the family I stayed with all through high school, in the same school district. They were older, had already raised two kids who were out of college, and they were perfect. Their son and daughter are like real older siblings for me now.

I did have one other friend from school who I remember took gymnastics from Mr. Prescott, or at least started. I guess it must have been the end of 6th grade when we started gymnastics, because I remember a conversation we had with our sixth grade math teacher about it. I remember that teacher had been a college gymnast. My friend was more built for gymnastics, short and athletic. I was tall and awkward and not very strong. Before Mr. Prescott there was no gymnastics instruction in our town. One girl in my class had her parents drive her about 50 miles twice a week for gymnastics and was pretty snobby about Mr. Prescott not being a real gymnastics instructor, but I guess maybe she was right.
