In reply to: you'll have a real "hot" car there, nothing close to stock though, and the much lighter weight, more powerful higher torqued '71 429CJ will still kick your ass! 's message, ""Going for more air in and out".....of your brain maybe! Why don't you port and polish those heads, and a 3" stainless exhaust with flowmasters, put a high lift cam in it, 10:1 pistons, etc," on 10:24:47 12/03/02 Tue

Well I hate to dissapoint you BUT your wrong!

I ran into a guy in Wisconsin (no NOT BP) anyways he owns a 71 429 PI car a 78 PI car, and he says they are both the same in performance! WHY?
Because thy are!
The 71 was rated at 370 horse (to the flywheel) your gonna lose NO MATTER WHAT 100 horse at least to the wheels! NO MATTER WHAT!

The 78 is rated at 202 (to the wheels) but that is wrong, its at least 260 (at the least)

I thought the 71 car was alot faster BUT i'm wrong just like you!
I wanted 11.5-1 Compression, BUT the PRO at the shop (who builds nothin but race cars) told me that that is old school stuff... If I'm not runnin AVGAS then i,m gonna have a sheety performer compared to a car that has 9-1 compression!

Any higher than 9-1 and i'm losin power, cause then I'd have to get an ignigtion system to RETARD my timing and ill just end up losin power!

WHY DO YOU THINK THE CARS OF TODAY ARE AT MOST 9-1 COMPRESSION, and the heads are done up!

My 78 was meant to perform on regular gas!

You wanna hear races, I BLEW up the connecting rod bearin on my 78 RAIN my cuz's 92 Vette.. from a dead start to 90+ mph's.. I hung around his rear wheel!
Thats a car doin 0-60 in 6 sec's!

The older 5.0 Mustangs, I can beat most of them, BUT alot of guys here do alot of mods to them, and they take me.. The NEWER mustangs are a joke I walk away from those easily,

My buddy (who i work with) has a 96 CAprice LT-1 (x-cruiser) and he keeps up with me, but again I WIN!!!

A guy I went to school with has a 67or68 firebird 350, and I ran across him at a light and we stepped on it, and RIGHT off the line I walked away from him!

I took the car to the track once and ran a 15.4!

The other stock 5.0's were runnin 15's as well!

A guy had a lowered LT-1 Caprice and with mods was runnin mid 15's!

The 78 Ford heads are the same as what is on the 72, BUT with some mod's done to them! AND BUILT BEEFIER!

My uncle who was with the RCMP from 1968-1978 told me that the Ford was the fastest of them all, HE TOLD ME ABOUT A 2 DOOR THAT THEY HAD WITH THE 429 THAT WAS A SCREEMER! But the 78 was his daily cruiser and he bought it after it was retired, AND NOW ITS MINE!

I asked about the Dodges and performance and he said it was close but the Ford's would pull away!

I have no idea where Mr Sanow got his performance results from BUT I'd say he's wrong.. I told my uncle about what the book says and after he laughed for a good 20 mins he said the guy better give his head a shake!

When I drove the car a few years ago, I parked in the Wal-mart parkin lot and a strner comes up to me and said (hey an Interceptor) I laughed and sais you know what it is.
He said he was an retired officer and drove the Fords back in the day!

He KNEW it had a 460 4V, and told me some stories! I must of yapped with this guy for a good half hour! and he told me same thing the Fords were better! BELIEVE ME I ASKED ABOUT THE DODGES!!
He mentioned the Dodges having some kind of rear end problems! BLOWIN diff's!

But anyways to make a long story short, I'M NOT here to argue, just tell u the facts! and the facts are that the 78 was just as good performance as the 71, I HAVE PROOF!

I have spoken to several owners (cause of my web page) and former owners, and they all tell me the same thing.. Performance was awesome! and capable of 140 Mphs easily!

I believe you are Bill Parks, cause you sure stick up for that 71 PI! BUT i have news for you, and the 71 is the same as the 78. I heard you dont even own any 70 PI's... and I actually found an old email FROM YOU askin to buy my 78!

I CAN PROVE IT AS WELL!

And I'm tellin you MR BP that I met a person in Wisconsin and he owns the REAL cars cause I seen them!

Don't worry maybe someday someone will sell you their car and you wont have to be a wannabee anymore!

REGARDS
Chris
