Subject: "Going for more air in and out".....of your brain maybe! Why don't you port and polish those heads, and a 3" stainless exhaust with flowmasters, put a high lift cam in it, 10:1 pistons, etc,

you'll have a real "hot" car there, nothing close to stock though, and the much lighter weight, more powerful higher torqued '71 429CJ will still kick your ass!

You give HiPo Ford owners a bad name, misquoting things and dreaming about your 4,700 lbs, low compression '78 460 PI car with 3.00:1 open end highway gears doing sub-14 second 1/4 miles. I, too, own and have driven both cars in STOCK, FACTORY configurations and I'm here to tell you you're dead wrong. The '71 PI would kick a STOCK '78 PI cars ass in any kind of race, , 1/4 mile, 0-60, 0-100, and especially top end, in excess of 140 MPH. Any car can be built to exceed the original stock , factory specs. Build your motor any way you want, it's your car! But, please spare us all with this diatribe about your STOCK 460 PI car being "almost" as fast or faster than the '71 or even a '72 429 CJ PI car, because it just ain't happening, unless you make MANY costly, extensive modifications to you motor and get 500-600 HP out of it, which is quite possible and it sounds as though you are heading in that direction!
