Pre-1973 cars were of the green,black,white variety. 1973 and after, to follow the LEAA standard that came out, they changed to the Lt Blue and White, also as a result of a contract negotiation, they cars came with AC. Most cars proir to 1973 came with a T43GGT (VHF)Motorola trunk mount radio, with the telephone style handset. In the mid to late 70's all cars no longer had a mobile radio, with the exception of the boss cars (SGT),each Officer was issued a HT-220 portable slimline. Pre 73 cars had the 4 lamp rotator mounted in the center of the roof ,and the Federal clapper siren on the roof, 73 and after were a light bar manufactured for Motorola, with 2 4 lamp rotators at each end. The siren was a Signal Stat with a special sound. From 1973 through the 80's NYPD used all makes of cars. Kojack's car was a Pontiac, wich was quite common in 1976,77. In the 80's NYPD used Ford LTD and Plymouth Fury (The big ones)for highway patrol, the precient cars were 6 cyl Dodge Diplomat and even some "K" cars.
