I think a lot depends on the number that were made. If you are doing an M body Dodge, find the real thing. If you are doing a 1953 Ford, you will have a long search just finding a low line car period, so you need to find the closest thing that is restorable. Add to that the number of cars in the period. There are probably more 90s CVs than all of the 40s police units ever, combined. One mistake I do see is the number of 50s and 60s cars that were nowhere near what was being used; Fairlane 500s,Impalas or Furies from this time were not used in favor of customs, biscaynes and savoys.I would rather see cars that at least look like the real thing even if the engines aren't the biggies. Many departments were still using 6-cylinders into the 70s. How many times have you seen whitewalls on a police car? It is a shame to go to all of the trouble of putting a car together and then ruin it with some feature that was popular on civilian cars or looks neat in a retro diner.
