What do you mean no excuse? There are more miss who are not in " state shape" at local prelims and even many who are a joke come swim suit time at state. What do you mean by out of shape anyway? There is real life and there is competition life for being in shape. I would never want a teen to be striving to be in " state competition shape" for a whole year. It is not realistic nor is is maintainable for most. There are are a few teens and miss who are skinny naturally but that is not fit any more than being overweight is fit. The appearance of skinny or thin may be appealing but it is sad how many skinny teens couldn't manage one half a push up. I am happy to give these teens a little breathing room at locals and hope they trim up or tone up by state time.
I also think many make such a wrong assumption that the teens are just prepping for the Miss competition. The teen program is not a spring board to miss. It's the little sister yes but it is a very different program looking for different things and there are so many who fit great into the teen program who will never and many never want to be a part of the Miss program. They should not be prepping for teen as if they are a foot away from Miss.
