I don't think experience or maturity were the issues for Laura. I don't think she is nasty either. She is plenty smart and talented. She is just not relatable to most teens her age. She comes off as super smart to the point of unapproachable and she is focused which comes off as uninterested and cold. She isn't the girl who joins in for the fun time or initiates the fun. If the teen interviews at nationals were personality type and less focused on the knowledge then she would probably not be their girl. Judging from the winner they were looking for the relatable teen for every teen. The talkative happy go lucky kind of girl who seems teen. Laura seems to always come off as older than she is and not that interested in " teen" type of things and experiences. She is brilliant and very talented but there is almost an over matureness about her that might explain why a lot of her pageant peers found her cold or even "mean". She is a sweet girl with clear intentions I just don't think she is the most social person with her peers. That would be a huge hinderance and I believe the judges would see through it at that level or be looking for someone every girl would want as a friend.
She will do a great job here in KY but if we want to compete nationally we need to seen a talented girl with lots of personality and a pretty face too.
