Subject: Christmas Letter

Happy Holidays to everyone! I thought I'd post a "Christmas Letter" here and hope others will too. :)

I continue to add plants and figurines to my "au natural" back yard. One of these years I'm going to run out of space, but meanwhile it's a lot of fun.

I'm still writing, and my latest book, "Walk Softly and Watch Out forBigfoot" came out in June. To find out more about it and my other books, and to see pictures of me (and my back yard!), and a link to my blog, visit

My husband is still teaching, doing his research, working on committees and mentoring students at the UO. He started a little sideline with "Erlen andErlene" the "world famous" flasks he created for use in his classes. To get a peek at the buttons, magnets, T-shirts, etc. check out
cafepress.com/eechem. (This is not a commercial, lol, I just think Erlen and Erlene are really cute.)

We went to all the home football games this year, as always, and are looking forward to watching the Ducks in the Las Vegas Bowl. We vacationed at The Shelburne Inn, in Seaview, Washington on Long Beach Peninsula, where we
walked along the beach, strolled the boardwalk, toured lighthouses, an old fort and a cranberry farm (which turned out to be surprisingly interesting), did a walking tour of old homes in a nearby town, and hiked the shore at the
tip of the peninsula.

Our daughter started a job she really likes as an advertising copywriter for Fred Meyer, a department store/grocery chain. She also loves working in her yard, developing muscles hauling rocks for a dry stream, rock
borders, etc. Her husband just finished training to work at the Ski Patrol at Mt. Hood in addition to his regular job.

Hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and a great New Year.

Hugs,
Ann

Hi Ann,

thanks for your newsy letter. It's nice to hear what's going on in your life way over in the USA.

Now, everyone, here's my news of late from over here in Perth, Australia.

My children Andrew (10) and Charlotte (8) are about to go on school holidays. So they will be off school from 8th December until early in February. I am fairly racking my brain thinking of enough things for them to do so as to keep them busy and active for most of the long school holidays. Among other things, I will take them to the local swimming centre, the library, vsits to the park, crafts at home, friends for sleepovers, lots of cooking and of course some time for reading books, books and more books. All of this will be combined whilst chasing my active 2-nearly-3 year old Thomas. I wish my husband could take some hoildays too but he won't be able to as summer time is his most busy time of the year at work.

I also have been working in my garden, mainly keeping the weeds at bay and keeping aphids from devouring my roses!

I have my Christmas shopping done; I don't do masses of shopping as I hate over-doing Christmas presents for my kids - they look at their happiest and most grateful if we give them just a few presents each but start looking a bit bored and less grateful with too many. In my view, a simpler Christmas is a happier Christmas!

I have an old dog (13) and an old cat (17) who are both really feeling the heat this summer. I give them both ice cubes to lick and I keep them inside where it's cooler. And the real summer heat hasn't even started yet!!

I spend my spare time reading a wide variety of books, making handmade birthday cards and doing some sewing.

That's about all the news I have, I'm looking forward to reading about what the rest of you are all up to.

Happy Christmas All
Anne
