Subject: Trip To LIW Home

Hi All,
We are home now and had a very good trip. Missouri was rather cool in the weather department. We really di not have any rain.

Our trip to Missouri included a visit to Laura's house. I get such an emotional feeling as we are driving up to the house. The house is so beautiful on the lovely grounds. I took the tour of the home and found there were no new things done to the house. It is just so wonderful to walk through the house and know that Laura and Almanzo lived right you are standing. It is such a unique feeling. The museum was as always wonderful and interesting. After the house and museum we went to the Rock House. It is so neat. It is wonderful of my favorite parts of the tour. It is quite a unique house. Then after that I went to the bookstore and made my purchases. I bought two books about Laura's life. They will be very interesting.

It was a wonderful day and much enjoyed. I really enjoyed the trip to Laura's house.

It sounds like a wonderful trip, Pat. Thanks for sharing. I still wonder why Rose didn't just live in the stone house herself and let her parents stay in the original house. The stone house was Rose's dream, and Laura and Almanzo moved back into the original house as soon as Rose moved out.

Hi Ann,
I never could figure that out either. She seemed to like the stone house better than Laura and Almanzo. It does seem like she would have lived there.

I love to look at the pictures of the house and the outside, which looks wonderful-so peaceful. I have even printed a picture from a site and framed it and it's up on my bedroom wall! My husband doesn't mind, he's got used to it!

Hi Valerie,
My husband made a cabinet to keep all of my Laura things in. We have it in the dining room. There is a part of that has glass panes on the doors so I can display my Laura doll and other precious items. I love my cabinet.

Pat, it sure sounds like you had a great time. How many times have you been now? Mindy, Jennifer, and I were thinking of going this summer, but things haen't gone like I planned. Maybe when my life slows down a little we will be able to take our road trip.

To Pat,
Having one place to put your collection sounds really good. I have a book shelf in the bedroom, but some have made their way downstairs as well, and I have a couple of box files upstairs for pictures etc. When we first got our pc I went mad collecting lots of things from the internet, it opened up a whole new, marvellous world for me. And I've been able to visit this site and find out so much more about Laura and her home. It's been an interesting couple of year's for me!!

Hi Valerie,
I do love my cabinet. It is so nice to store my Laura things in one place. Before I had this I had things scattered all over the place. Now, I can look in one place and find what I want.

[> Laura & Almanzo and the Rock House -- Jennifer, 12:19:48 06/18/02 Tue

I was thinking about Laura and Almanzo moving back to *their* house after Rose left. My thoughts are that THEY built that house the way THEY wanted it - and while it was nice of Rose to build the Rock House for them with all the modern conveniences, it is my feeling they never thought of it as *home*

Hi Jennifer,
I think that was exactly the feeling they had. I believe I read somewhere that they missed farm life and the Rock House just never felt like home.
