Subject: Anyone got their Christmas shopping done?
I'm finished shopping for the extended family, but haven't even got a CLUE what to buy for my DH and kids although I have a few stocking stuffers for them so far. Usually I at least have an idea what I'm getting them by this point in the year, so I feel completely panicked right now. I do have all my Christmas cards addressed, if that counts! ;-)
Surely there must be those amongst us who were finished shopping in May and have them all appropriately wrapped and labelled. 'Fess up. Who are you? (And can you come do mine?!)

The out-of-town folk will get gift baskets from Harry & David. I'll just pick up the phone and order. As for family here in town, I've done a little shopping. My husband, of course, is the most difficult to buy for.
Laura had it "easy." ;) Just one gift per person, something like knit socks, and everyone was thrilled!

Have barely even thought about it. I usually leave it until the last minute. I don't like to start before December because I feel that the time drags. I never wrap before Christmas Eve. It's always been a tradition in my family to do all the wrapping then.

I finished all my shopping two days ago! And....everything is wrapped! I cannot believe it. I'm hoping to put the tree up this Sunday also.

LisaE, you make me feel guilty! -- Kim, 08:45:47 11/22/02 Fri
Great. Just great. Now I really feel slow. The woman is 6 months' pregnant and SHE has all HER shopping done, while the last time I was 6 months' pregnant was in 1997, and my shopping for 2002 remains to be done. LOL Seriously, well done, and just think, next year you'll have a 10-month, possibly walking (cruising, at any rate!), toddler to buy for. THEN you'll really have fun.
My kids get such a bang out of Christmas, we have a lot of fun together. Today we're making applesauce and cinnamon ornaments for one of their trees, and I have to dry apple slices to make a wreath with them tomorrow. They make the house smell fabulous. Their Daddy is also the resident Santa Claus for our town, and he is on full duty for the next few weeks with countless appearances. They love watching him do the transformation into Father Christmas from plain ol' Daddy.
We always put the main living room tree up on Grey Cup Sunday too. Almost all of my other decorations are up, the festive CDs are playing and I have perfected my eggnog and shortbread recipes yet again. It's weird, I really feel like I *need* Christmas this year, even if we do lack snow at the moment.
Speaking of Grey Cup .... who are you cheering for? Go Eskies!! (I'm a born-and-bred Edmontonian, what can I say?!)

I have a rule that ALL shopping AND cards MUST be completed by the end of October. Well - every single year we have NO CLUE what to buy Garrett's dad and we start nagging his mom to tell us what to get him in September (these people have money and everything they want - so what can you get them?????!!!!!) but still no gift for him. I have even purchased my nephew's birthday presents for January - but no gifts for dad-in-law. So truly I consider myself done, even though there is one left As a matter of fact, Garrett just said last night he will make his mom give us 2 ideas so we can get next years gift NOW! LOL!!!

I'm almost done. I went out one day to get my youngest a new Elmo toyu that I thought might be popular and went crazy. He's done with toys and my oldest needs one more. The I'll probably by them each an outfit and a few books. Stil have to do the stocking stuffers. My husbands impossible to by for. He never give sus any ideas. I have one thing for him. I got my parents, sister/brother-in-law , nieces and nephews done. (I leave Eric's parents to him) I still have my step sister to by for too. What I hate is the birthdays I have to get in November/December. 2 nieces,a newphew, father, and my sister. My cousin i always send a card because we have the same birthday. I haven't done any wrapping yet. I'm waiting till we get our stuff from the attic to see what wrapping paper we have left. I did pick up my cards from CVS the other day(we do thepicture ones with the kids on them) so I have to address them and still by the stamps. We usually don't put up our tree untill the weekend after Thanksgiving(but it's late this year)

Tree -- Ann, 19:56:54 11/22/02 Fri
Wow! Everyone puts up their tree so early. I decorate the house and put up the lights the day after Thanksgiving, but we don't get a tree until about 2 weeks before Christmas. We go out and cut a fresh one, and it's still drying out a few days after Christmas. How do you get one stay stay fresh for over a month???

Christmas Shopping and Tree -- Anne, 05:51:57 11/23/02 Sat
Hello Everyone,
It's nice reading about how everyone else handles the Christmas onslaught and all the demands of the festive season! (Cards, presents, cooking, tree etc)
I am totally behind this year. I have not made my cards yet, must get on to that, I should probably just buy them this year or make them on the computer. I have done about 1/2 my shopping, but we don't go over the top with presents usually - the kids are happy with just a few special things and they get spoiled by other relatives anyway. Like Ann, we don't put the tree up until about 2 weeks before as we have birthdays in our house in early December so that keeps the kids excited anyway.
I think once the 1st of December hits I will probably start to feel more Christmasy. It usually hits me about then. I am really looking forward to hearing all those Christmas carols, must get my Christmasy cd's out!

Re: Anyone got their Christmas shopping done? -- Cindy C, 01:07:53 11/24/02 Sun
I have barely begun my shopping! I have picked up a few things here and there, but am way behind this year.. I like to have it done by now, and sometimes I do! We put our tree up the Day after Thanksgiving..but it is an artificial tree.. a nice big fluffy one, lol.. don't know what kind it is supposed to be. We got a real tree from the tree farm a few years ago,and we absolutely loved it, but of course we didn't put that one up until two weeks before Christmas, and it didn't make it till New Years, which is usually how long we keep ours up. This year, I have my twin grandsons to buy for, and that is something that I am looking forward to, since this is their first real Christmas.. they are 14 months old now.. WOW! My son, is 15, and doesn't want a whole lot.. we usually go way over board on Christmas, but since my daughter is a mom,and my son is growing up.. it is getting easier to please them with just a few things..My husband is EASY to buy for, so I guess I am the lucky wife amongst you ladies! And as for me, I am being a little selfish this year, and buying my self a new computer.. a good one from Dell.. having them build me what I want, and no more of these slow things. I never bought myself anything so extravigant in my life, so I don't feel real bad about it at the moment! When my kids were small, My husband and I usually only bought for them if we didn't have alot of money to buy for each other, but this is a good year, so I told my husband that I would like a set of very nice lamps, .. maybe you have seen them.. they are the ones with the shades that are stained glass..the bigger ones, and they are at TJ Max, if anyone knows that store. I think they are beautiful and would love to have them. What do you ladies want for yourselves?

Re: Anyone got their Christmas shopping done? -- Valerie, 04:43:16 11/25/02 Mon
I've written all the cards and just sent those off to other countries, I've finished buying for my daughter and all my husband's family which i like to get out of the way first if I can, but it get's more difficult each year. My parents are difficult as they have everything and my mum likes surprises so you can't even get ideas!! She loves surprising people too, when i don't mind if i know what i might get. We don't put the tree up until mid December. My birthday is in December & my cards have to compete with the early christmas cards. Sometimes I wish I hadn't been born at this time of year, but it does put you in the mood for Christmas!!
