Subject: Black gowns - Okay, or NO WAY!!!

I just wanted to get your thoughts on how black gowns are viewed by potential judges in "Mrs." pageants.
I always hear "Color makes you stand out," but at the same time, it seems like black gowns are rare enough that it would make you stand out, anyway.
Plus, to me they are more figure flattering and easier to look chic and classy in.
Does anyone have any helpful opinions?

[> Subject: I definitely like this subject. I have always wanted to compete in a black evening gown, but never did because I am African American, and very dark skinned, so therefore, I have always gone with colors like orange, red, royal etc, so what do you think, should I try it?

[> Subject: For the poster who has worn black twice, and gotten rave reviews, are you African American? and thanks for the poster who mentioned Miss America 2012, but she is not African American, my original post was about having the concern of being a very dark skinned African American, and wondering how a black competition gown would look.

Speaking only for myself, I think it depends on the gown. I am just such a big fan of bright white on dark-skin, that this is my first instinct. But I think a black gown with silver accents would also have the potential to really pop on stage and bring out your beauty. I would love to see pictures!
[> [> [> Subject: no, I am not AA, so I can understand your concern about the black gown. I tend to like strong bright colors on AA girls. It usually shows better. I remember first seeing Miss America from FL in a yellow gown, and I went insane over it. So, guess you'll have to think hard, try some on, and maybe take pics to see for yourself what really pops.
