Subject: Sooooo..... Was the Miss USA pageant rigged?

Have to wonder...

I have to admit it - There were some weird moments, like at crowning when the cameras were 100% focused on the girl who would eventually win, with only a second of time devoted to the runner up. I noticed that right away and thought it was strange, even before the rumors started coming out afterwards.
Crazy, I know, but I can't get this out of my head!

The 5 "practice" finalists at the rehearsal were the SAME as on the telecast...hmmmmm
[> Subject: if you've been around long enough, you must realize that not every pageant is pure at heart. Directors play a huge roll in helping choose, or at least influencing judges. I witnessed such a thing at a major pageant before the interviews were over. I saw a list of the top 5. The director rushed to grab it so no one saw it, but I did. Who should I tell? Who should I accuse? if I write it on a voy, people accuse me of sour grapes. So, most of us just shut up and move on.

[> [> Subject: I was a judge at a major pageant and was told by the director to just relax and have fun, because the scores didn't count. She had already selected who she wanted, in so many words, and we should just enjoy the show. How would I tell the public that? I'd be laughed out of the business. That pageant still goes on, too. And when I see girls entering I cringe, wishing I could tell them what I knew, but I"d be considered a wack job. Suffer in silence, I guess, or just plain get out of pageantry.

[> Subject: I was a judges chairperson at a pageant and was in the room when the director added up the scores. The 1st and 2nd RU were one point apart. The director made it clear that she wanted the 2nd RU as the first and had all of us intial the judging sheet okaying the switch. I felt pressured to put my intails on the paper and I did but also decided that if the queen gave up her title I was going to speak up. Thankfully the queen did not give up her title and the pageant is no longer in business.

[> Subject: Did anyone see the interview with Miss USA this morning on GMA (Good Morning America)? Miss New York was supposed to appear with her, and did not, saying that she didn't want to steal the spotlight -----Strange! But somewhere along the line, more pageants than we know are probably fixed, and in Trump's case, money talks big time.

[> [> [> Subject: Wow! Yeah, that's not looking good at all, and I don't see these girls giving up titles, defending each other, etc, for nothing. I have always loved the Miss USA/Universe pageants, but they have changed quite a bit since he took over.

[> Subject: The MUO system clearly says in their contract that the organization picks 9 of the top 15, maybe what the judges pick too. However they are a for profit organization... if you fit the marketing plan, you win. The camera guys do know because it is live and even tho the last question may not be scored they have to be ready to find those gals on the stage. I do not think it is rigged but the organization has the right to help select it is very clear in the contract.

[> [> Subject: But don't you think every girl on stage potentially fits the marketing plan? So you think that a director should have a say in who wins? do they generally have a say? I did direct a pageant once, but once the show started, I had no conversation with the judges, and what the outcome was, was the outcome. Isn't that normal?
