It sucked! Even our parents hated it, because we never could play after school. So, a bunch of them made a big stir with the big-shots at school, and now we have it great! Ivy, I can take any subject I want at a college level; Dad said that I should maybe just start with one subject, and the see about doing more than that after one semester. Actually, he is thinking about letting me take an English or Literature course next year! We go to summer camp for a month every year, and then we also do a family vacation for a month. This year, we stayed at a house in Cape Cod for 4 weeks; fishing, swimming,sun & sand! It would be hard to be on a sports team during the summer. I (Levi) am taking a Kids Cooking Class that lasts eight weeks. (Benji got me interested in this!) It is one night a week. And, Dad is thinking about having some of us take a Karate class one session a week. That sounds kind of cool, but Dad says forget about being a Samurai or anything! But, he did get a brown belt when he was in H.S. Well, keep at it in school, Ivy! Hope you did well in those exams; when do you get the results? Hope all is well at your house. I've been busy with schoolwork, extracurriculars, and family stuff. This is my first free weekend. How are you? I can't imagine 5 hours. Was it about an hour of homework from each class or did one teacher give you like half of the night's homework? It's cool that you can take any college class. Will it count for credits when you get in college, so you could graduate early? Wow, your summer seems busy. My family doesn't go on vacations a lot. We live near a large-ish city, so there's always something to do. It sucks that you can't do sports in the summer, though, but I think the vacations make up for it. Speaking about sports, I'm playing for a boys' ice hockey team now (Take that stereotypes!) One of the coaches saw me beat some guys the other day and said that I should try out, and I did. Your family likes baseball, right? Well, it's postseason. What's your World Series match-up? The NLCS is doing a Game 6 against Giants and the Cardinals. Cards are leading in the NLCS 3-2. I want the Cards to win because they're my favorite team, but any team of mine always have notorious bad luck, so the Giants will probably move on. If you don't get this message, until after tonight and we're already in the WS, who do you think will win and who will be MVP? Karate is cool. I never tried it. What's the belt levels called again? For a crossword puzzle. Three letters and starts with a "d"? I think it's "Dan," but I'm not sure. I will. I got my exam scores back about two weeks ago. My scores were great. 98th percentile rank in Reading and 99th in both Math and Science. Which doesn't make any sense, considering I missed more questions in Science than Reading. When we got the 5 hours of homework each night, it would vary; usually it was about an hour per class, but when we had "special projects," it might be focused on one class more so than others. Thankfully, that has been changed this year, and our homework is far more manageable. Any college class we take will count for credit toward a college degree, as well as high-school credits. My Dad is now considering letting me (Levi) take either English or a Literature course next year at the University where our school is located! He won't make up his mind until around April, however. Yes, our summers are very busy, but lots of fun! In two years, I will have my Bar Mitzvah and it will be at the Wailing Wall! But, my birthday is in April, so Dad said that maybe it would just be Mom, Dad and me for the Bar Mitzvah, and then we will all (or almost all of us) go over for a month in the summer. Most of us have already been to Israel at least once. As for the 2013 summer, my folks haven't decided what we will do for vacation yet. That's cool (literally!) that you are playing ice hockey on a boys team! We all ice skate, too! We sure love seeing the Boston Bruins play! You sure did great on your tests! My Dad said that the reason that you did as you did on the Science despite missing more questions might have been because of weighting on the questions. Don't know if he is right, though. As far as the baseball World Series; we are poor sports! When the Red Sox team stunk worse than Limburger cheese this year, we simply lost interest in the whole sport! LOL!! Hope your team came out on top nevertheless, Ivy! We are all happy that this site is back in operation, and hope that the Moderator stays healthy. My grandpa on my mom's side did when he was a missionary. I had my Bat Mitzvah last year. Do you ice skate much? I'm more of a Blues fan myself, but with the lockout, I don't think neither the Bruins or the Blues will play soon. I don't know what position I'll do yet because all the guys are more bulkier. Definitely not goalie, that's for sure. I'm kind of worried that one of the big guys will ram me into the glass. Your dad might be right about the tests. Hey, at least the Red Sox aren't the Cubs or the Astros! The Cubs and Astros both lost more than 100 games during the regular season. The Cardinals lost 0-7 and I'm angry. They had a 3-1 lead in the NLCS and then they blew it in Game 5, Game 6, and Game 7. It's the pitching. It was a great season, though. After the 9-7 win with the Nats...Matheny, the new manager this year, did well for his rookie season, so I have high hopes for next year. The WS is between Giants and the Tigers. I don't like either team much, so I don't know if I'll watch it. I hope that the Moderator stays healthy as well. As well as you guys. Hope to hear from you soon. I'll try to post more. The Giants look like they'll sweep and win the World Series. Their offensive and defensive have gotten much better during the NLCS. In hockey, I'm playing right wing in the third line. The coaches told me that I if I do well in the third line and could handle the big guys fairly well, then I could go on to second, or even first, line. I guess it was sort of awesome, but we weren't real interested. Hockey is awesome! We love the winter because it means ice skating! Right wing is a tough position, Ivy. You must be, well, real tough. Once, we were at a Bruins game and Dad got us seats down real close to the ice. We were right next to the ramp that leads off the ice to the dressing room when they came off the ice between periods. THOSE GUYS ARE HUGE!!! Ivy, my Dad pointed out- and he was right, that even if you took off off the pads they wear, they are still just giants of muscle! he said that he thinks hockey players are the best athletes of any pro sport.I think he's right. my Dad used to play pick-up games of hockey when he was growing up! There was a pond a few blocks behind his house, and he used to go over there and play, after they cleaned up the ice with shovels. My Dad said it's a New England tradition that every kid who grows up her plays hockey! It's funny- we- and our friends- all ice skate, but no one roller skates! [ Post a Reply to This Message ]

It was cool, though, that their third baseman got 3 home runs in one game, just like Pujols did with the Cards last year. Hockey IS awesome - whether played or just watching. Because the part of the country where I live have moderate temperatures in the winter, we have indoor rinks instead, so we can skate whenever. It just looks awkward when we're go outside, wearing a heavy-ish jacket to go to an ice skating rink, in the middle of the summer! I'm just a third-line right wing, though, so I just wear them down with speed. I'm not really supposed to ram into defensemen to score goals. I can take a body check or two, though. Besides, I'm in a U14 team, so the guys here vary. Some are 6 feet tall, stocky, but muscular and others are lighter and shorter than me. That won't be the case in a few years, though, but I enjoy it while I have it. :) It's cool that your dad got you seats that close to the ice! Especially in New England. They're supposed to be more hockey-orientated and a ton of people must go. That's cool that he played hockey on a pond, though. Was it sturdy enough that it wouldn't crack? It's a Midwest tradition for everybody to play whiffle ball outside - no matter what season it is in. Everybody around here can and will roller skate; hardly anybody knows how to ice skate! I've been busy with school stuff and I'm supposed to be the head person to help organize everything. How's school and everything? I know you guys are planning to do a huge presentation after the break, so you're going to be busy as well. They're not that bad. I mean, I'm in the third line, so the really strong players are gone by then. But it still gets kinda rough, especially when the game is close. I had a busted lip from the goalie, though. My goalie. The season is 4 - 4. We never lost badly, though. We're always off by 1 or 2. That's really cool! It sucks that you might not get to use them because of the lockout. I didn't think it would go on for this long. Whiffle-ball is amazing. The ball isn't as dense as a baseball, so any one can play and somebody will always hit it, unless the pitcher is amazing, so there's always action. It could screw up your swing in baseball, though. :/ It's more of a recreational thing, then a serious sport. Some other neighbor kids and I would always go to an empty area (our street is "new" and there are always empty lots or really grassy areas that can be found) to play soccer and whiffle ball because our parents would never let us play it around the houses. We just got our assignments, and we are starting to get organized for our projects. We do a huge multimedia presentation using PowerPoint and more to do the presentation. It is a project that takes in all of our subjects, believe it or not; math, science, English, history, geography and more. A big part of the problem is getting organized- deciding who will do what and how, that kind of stuff. Anyhow, the Instructors kind of check in, but we also use parents to help us, too. But they are not allowed to do any of the work. They can only give advice. We still think it's amazing that you play hockey! Our Dad had a Canadian friend in H.S. and he had already lost all his teeth playing hockey and had dentures. Our Grandmother went nuts when he stayed over for a week! The lockout sucks! TV is so boring also! My Dad says the best athletes of all pro sports are hockey players. When you really look at how they play, you realize that is true! Glad you have empty lots to play whiffle ball, Ivy! My brothers have broken windows playing ball too close to the house. Let's say that they learned painfully not to do that! It wasn't that they broke the window- it was that they were warned to not play so close to the house but didn't move farther away. They learned better- I think.
