Hi everyone!

My name is Ivy and I'm an incoming 8th grader who had just turned thirteen. I'm a girl and is still spanked by my parents (after a 5 year gap).

School starts next month, like most in my area. I don't do any physical sports at school, but I do play girls' baseball outside of school, recreational tennis, skateboarding, and mountain biking. At school, I'm more of an academic person (nicer word for geek) who takes honors classes and do all those mental sports. I used to go to a private school that used corporal punishment, but I found out that I'd be transferring to a public school, that doesn't paddle, instead.

I like to read, draw, finish puzzles, eat, sleep, write, and take photography. My favorite book to read is the last book I read, until I read another book.

That's all I can think of right now and I hope this will be a great place where we won't come in contact with inappropriate subjects, but still make new cyber friends.

Hello again Ivy! I just read your other post. Yes, this place does seem to be a good place to meet other kids.

I'm 13 and going into 8th grade too. We go to a Catholic school. I have 2 younger brothers and a younger sister who go there too. I like a lot of sports too. I play volleyball, tennis and softball. I also like running and I was on the track team last year. I like music too mostly stuff like Pink & Avril Lavigne and I even like some classical music.

So why did your parents start spanking you again after 5 years? I have always been spanked since I was little.

Why are you going to public school now? That's nice that they won't be spanking you. Will your parents still spank you?

I am so glad there is another girl here. I know what you mean about inapproprate subjects. My brother Sean was doing that on another forum and he got into a LOT of trouble. My mom and dad read everything here so that keeps us honest! :) My dad has posted stuff here too. His name is Anthony.

So nice to meet you. I hope you keep coming back!

Hi Taylor,

Nice to hear from you. I thought I replied to this message already, but I guess I closed the window before sending it. Anyways, it's cool that you play all those sports. I don't know much about volleyball, but I used to play softball, until I switched to girls' baseball. Anyways, what position do you play? I'm a huge Pink fan, too, and classical music. Then again, I like every genre, except dubstep/techno. Right now, I'm more into rock.

Five years ago, they thought I was getting too old. Now, though, I have proved them wrong. Then my sister proved them wrong. And it all spiraled from there.

I'm going to public school because of transportation reasons and the fact that private schools and me have a love/hate relationship. Not a trouble maker, but I can get into the middle of trouble rather quickly, if that makes any sense. My parents will still spank me.

Anyways, nice to meet you.

Hi Ivy,

Sorry I haven't responded lately. I've been busy getting ready for school & going to soccer practice. We start school next Monday.

I play outfield and pitch in softball. I do ok at both but I prefer pitching. What position do you play? I never thought about playing baseball. I used to when I was little but I switched to softball when I was 11.

I hope you can post here more often. There is another girl named Lucy here now. We have to keep these boys from taking over! LOL! Nice talking to you.

Hi Taylor,

Sorry I haven't responded in a while. My first day of school was the 20th and I'm still transitioning towards 8th grade. I have all honors classes and I'm trying to adapt towards the different teachers - from clean and sanitary to more lax teachers. It doesn't help that it just so happens that my state is changing their curriculum, lunch program, and everything else on us. Anyways, it's been hectic. I've been a student at this school before, but not like this.

You're really lucky that your school starts next Monday. But, then your school probably ends later, right?

It's cool that you play soccer. Is your school team any good? I'm very clumsy, so I could never play soccer. But I like to watch it. I used to play catcher in softball. In baseball, I play catcher and pitcher, and sometimes I switch out with the center fielder.

I want to post more often, but this year is turning out to be full of assignments, quizzes, tests, and etc. I already had a quiz today (aced it) over the rules of the class. Now, I have to type a two-page essay by tomorrow. Anyways, I now need to finish typing it.

Hello Ivy,

It's good to hear from you again! Sorry I haven't been here myself the last few days. I got in trouble yesterday and didn't feel like getting on the internet or doing much of anything. I spent most of my time in my room. That was mostly by choice.

I got spanked with my mom's hairbrush because I left Kevin & Shannon alone while I went across the street to see my friends new clothes. Mom had gone out to run some errands & Sean wasn't home so I got to be the sitter. Well mom got home before I did. I totally get that I messed up but I didn't think I deserved a spanking. So I just stayed in my room mostly since then. I'm not mad at my mom just upset that I got spanked.

We start school Monday & I'm looking forward to it. I usually do pretty good at school & I like most of our teachers. How is school going for you so far? I've never gone to public school so I have no idea what it's like. I heard it can pretty chaotic.

Our soccer team is pretty good. I don't know if we will win any championships but we'll win some games. I have fun at it though. I'm also taking up the violin again. I started practicing again this week. I need a lot more practice.

I know we will be busy with school stuff & all that but let's stay in touch ok? I think this is a nice place to come and talk to other people. Bye!

Hi Taylor,

Sorry to hear you got spanked. Hope it wasn't too bad. I'm the younger sibling who burns Ramen noodles, so nobody trusts me with anything babysitting related.

Cool that you start school on Monday. But it probably means your school ends later than mine? My school is doing great. We're the largest public school in our area, with over 160 students in 8th grade, so it's a little chaotic. Nothing like the stereotypes because we all get along like a large extended family, but it does get cramped. I thought it would be hard with a quiz every other day, but it gets predictable.

Sorry for rambling, anyways, what position do you play in soccer? I hope your team has a good season. It's cool that you play the violin. I would never have the patience, even though I love classical music. Doesn't it get tiring, though, with your arms in the air and resisting gravity and all? Hope you have fun with it.

I hope we keep in touch, too. Good luck on Monday and don't get a detention on the first day of school like I did, but that's another story. ;)

Hi Ivy,

It's good to see you back. I know how busy you must be with school & everything else. I have been too with soccer & violin & homework plus I am in my 2nd year of confirmation. That's a lot of work too & we have our 1st retreat at the end of the month.

So how is school going? This is your 1st year in public school? Are you meeting a lot of new people? Why did you get detention the 1st day of school? I got in a little trouble my 2nd day. Talking in class, again. I got detention & a demerit. So I was off to a great start too!

Our soccer team is 3-0-1 so far this year. I play midfield mostly but sometimes defense. Violin is going better than I expected. I'm really getting back into it. I wish I hadn't stopped playing when I did. And yes, my arms get tired sometimes but I'm used to it. :)

Our school is pretty small compared to yours. We only have 2 classes for most grades except this year there are 3 third grade & 8th grade classes. You get to know everybody pretty quickly. I like it here though. I have gone to school here since kindergarten. I'm going to miss it when I graduate next spring. The teachers are great & a lot of the parents (including mine) help out a lot.

Well that's all for now. I will try to post more often but I don't always have time. Nice talking to you Ivy!

Hi Taylor,

I have to make this quick. I have to start a paper. Sorry, I haven't been posting in a while, but I've been busy with school work, clubs, visiting family in Chicago, and community service (The good kind, not the bad kind.)

School is going great. I'm keeping up all A's so far, and that is my goal before 8th grade ends. I have a grade in library and that is not fun, so I have to get a 100 on my reading test now because I only go there once a week. I am meeting new people. I know some of them, but new students just keep pouring in. There's already somebody expelled, though. It's kind of my first year. I've been at this school before and then I transferred back. I got detention because my teacher misinterpreted my statement and thought I said something else to her. So, what is a demerit for? You already have a detention, so is it something additional?

That's cool. It's been about a week or two, what's your record now? You play violin? I could never play an instrument. Are you any good?

The same was at my old school, so going to public school was a huge difference. I don't know any of the new students because my homeroom is like a herd that follows each other through the day. How's your school going so far? I'm going to miss my school, too, when I graduate. But, they say that graduation is fun and we have a field trip to an amusement park. When are you going to pick your classes for high school? I have to wait for my scores, teacher recommendations, and etc.

Nice talking to you, too. I hope to hear from you soon.

Hi Ivy,

It's great to hear from you. It's hard to find time to visit here sometimes. I've been busy with school stuff too.

What paper do you have to write? Congrats on the all A's. That's really great. I've been getting mostly A's too but I did bet a couple of B's on some math tests. Not my strongest subject. Have you taken that reading test yet? I hope you got the 100 you need.

Our school uses a demerit system as a kind of discipline system. Most stuff is only 1 demerit but you can get more for more serious stuff. Our school handbook lists what you can get a demerit for & how many you get for each infraction. It's kind of up to the teachers if you get one. We have to carry a demerit card with us & when a teacher asks for it when you mess up you better have it because that's a demerit too. It sounds worse than it really is. But I thought the demerit was unfair because it was only the 2nd day of school. I thought detention was enough. It's the only one I have so far. My brothers both have 3 already. Sean got his 3rd one today but I'm not sure why. He isn't talking to me right now. We had this big fight after school Monday & he's still mad at me. He'll get over it.

We won our game on Saturday so now we have 4 wins, no losses & 1 tie. Our next game is Friday. I'm not really all that good at violin. I didn't play for several months then started again last month. I've been practicing though & a lot of it is coming back but I'm not all that good. My music teacher seems to think I have this hidden talent & has me trying some different stuff but I struggle with it. I like it though & I'm going to keep playing. I know I will get better.

We have been taking the Terra Nova & Explore tests this week. It's been exhausting. The Explore tests are to help us decide the best courses to take in high school. The Terra Nova tests are an achievement test. I don't remember when we get the results back. I'll be taking entrance exams at the high schools I want to apply to early next year. My parents want me to narrow it down to 3 schools by November.

Will you be going to a public high school then? Do you get a choice of which one? What is your favorite subject? I hope you do well & get to the school you want. How large are the high schools where you live? There are some pretty big public high schools here. I can't imagine what it would be like with so many other kids. I would feel lost I think.

Well I just realized that this post is getting really long. Sorry about that. I like chatting with you & Lucy. I haven't seen anything from her in a while. She's probably busy with school stuff too. Nice talking to you. I hope you have a good week!

Hi Taylor,

I've typed around three pages now, so I can procrastinate a little. I'm writing an argumentative essay on the two-party political system paradigm and why it should be replaced and how that will contribute to why November will essentially change nothing. I like arguing, so any essay where I can do that is good enough for me. Congrats on the good grades. Eighth grade seems harder than 7th grade, since they're trying to prepare us for high school and all. I didn't take the test yet. I'm supposed to read the book this weekend, but I have to finish my essay, so I'm trying to cram it in. It's a short book, though.

Thanks for clearing up the demerits thing. But, is there a certain number of demerits that get you a detention or vice versa? Or is a demerit harsher than a detention?

Congrats on the winning record. I heard from another thread you started that you hurt your ankle and might miss the rest of the season. I hope it's get better and that you heal fast. How much do you practice with your violin? Do you know how to play any kind of difficult songs yet?

I've heard about the Explore test, but I'm supposed to take it in 9th grade to help decide what careers I might be good at. I take something similar to the Terra Nova; it's called the ISAT that I take in March/April of last year, but it's supposed to end this year because my state is changing the curriculum. It's to decide what classes I can take (honors classes, regular classes, etc.) Usually they give the results by the end of September or October. I think I screwed up on the English test, though. They kept asking me for my opinion of multiple-choice questions and I'm like, "My opinion isn't a choice on this test!" I'm glad it's ending.

I'm going to a public high school. The Writing program is great and so is the math program. I only hate the fact that they don't give you enough history and humanities options. Those are the subjects I really like. I don't have a choice on what school I go to. Unless I go back to private school, but I only have about two choices then. Our quasi-city is pretty big and it's divided up into townships so you have to go the public school that is in your district (Northwest Ordinance of 1783 that Jefferson proposed. That's why I like history. It explains why things are like they are.) Are you going to a private high school? The high schools are pretty big. The one I'll be going to has over 2000 students with about 500 students per grade. It has an open campus, similar to college campuses, so everything is pretty spread out. I think I would feel lost, too.

Nice to hear from you. Hope your ankle gets better.

Hi Taylor,

I hope your ankle is getting better. I heard you tore a ligament?

Anyways, what's the Explore test like? They're thinking about bringing it back to my school, so I'm deciding on whether or not I should worry about it or brush it off. I got my standardized testing results this week to help decide for my high school classes. Did you get the Terra Nova results back? My friend took the Terra Nova and said the grading scale is completely different from the test I took, even though they use the grades in all of these tests for statistics.

Hi Ivy,

My ankle is getting better but it is still sore. The swelling is down mostly now. The doctor told me Tuesday that I have a small tear in one of the ligaments. It should heal on it's own so I shouldn't need surgery. That's a relief but it still sucks. I hate trying to get around on crutches. Taking a shower on one good leg is an adventure. I can't put any weight on it yet. I see the doctor again next week & he will probably put a special boot on it so I can walk around without crutches. I guess it all depends on how everything is healing though.

The Explore test is interesting. It's divided into English, Math, Science & Reading. They have what they call passages that you read & then answer a group of questions. They're multiple choice questions. I do pretty good at the English & Reading stuff but I struggle with Math & science. I get decent grades but I have to work a lot harder at those subjects. I thought the math & science parts of the test were really hard. I think we get the results back next month. I haven't got the Terra Nova results back yet. I don't remember when we are supposed to get them.

Congrats on your election as president of the Junior Honor Society. That's a great achievement. Your family must be really proud of you.

Hi Taylor,

Sorry I haven't replied in almost a month. I've been really busy with schoolwork, extracurriculars, and a bunch of other stuff. This is the first free weekend I had in a while.

So, how are you? Is your ankle better? I assume that it's either done healing or in the finishing process. When is volleyball tryouts? I hope your ankle healed before tryouts. I don't know if I'm doing the Explore test now. I got my test scores back. The scores were great and much better than I anticipated. But it's similar to the Explore test, except English and Reading is combined and the Science test is easier. It only reviewed what we learned in the past year.

Thanks. They're proud. My friends made a bet about it.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Shalom, Ivy! Mah nish mah?

Dad said that I should say Hi to you on behalf of everyone. (This is Levi.) Yes, I am 11 years old, but I guess you could say that besides being Jewish we have something else in common. You are talking all Honors classes and I suppose I do, too. (Well, all of us who are in school, actually.)Our school is a private school run by a major University just for "gifted" kids. It's really pretty cool, our classes are very small (8 students max) and we can take courses for H.S. and college credit. Our Instructors all teach at universities. The college courses are able to be taken at any of 6 universities, two of which are Ivy league. (I guess that means you have approved them, LOL!!!) So, in two years I will be taking Calculus at an Ivy league engineering school.
It is real cool that you have sports at your school, we do not, except in gym class and recess. Last year we always had a ton of homework every night, but this year there was a complaint by parents and we are now only saddled with 1.5 hours per night. MUCH BETTER!
We have French and Spanish classes beginning in our first year of school (we do not have grades, but we speak French in the mornings at home until the sun sets, and then we speak Hebrew. So, yes, we all speak (and write Ivrit. I hate transliteration, but Hebrew is an easy language. Weekends, our parents kind of mix up what we speak, any of the three languages. At 13, we take a third language in school, and there is a wide choice. I may take Russian.
Well, it was nice to "meet" you, and L'Shanah Tovah tikvatavu l'ach!

Shalom Levi, Avraham, Joseph & Yitzchak, Adam, ve Yaakov! Meat meod. Veata?

Sorry, if my Hebrew is a little rusty. I usually converse with Hebrew, but I don't have much experience writing it out - transliterated or otherwise. But, I'm having a little practice right now. It's nice to "meet" you guys, too. How was your Rosh Hashanah?

It's cool that you guys have that opportunity at that school. 1.5 hours of homework? I'm scared to know how much last year's homework was. The most I got was about two hours with all the honors classes I've been taken since 6th grade. I do an independent study program on my interests, so I guess that contributed to the time. When you take calculus, do you sit in with the college class? If you're going to take calculus when you're 13, are you doing Algebra right now? I'm doing advanced Algebra to be able to skip freshman math next year and go on to sophomore math.

It sucks that you don't have sports at your school. Personally, I think it gives a sense of school pride, but to each his own. If you had sports, what would you play?

Learning two languages at school must take up a ton of time. So your parents implement an immersion technique to help with the languages? Russian is a fun, yet difficult language. It's different from French, Spanish, and English because it isn't based on the Latin alphabet, but on Cyrillic script. The grammar is a little complicated, but once you get past the alphabet, it's more manageable. For example, this is how you say hello: привет. It's pronounced "preevet." It improves your spelling in English, though. Go figure.

L'Shanah Tovah Tikatevu!

You wrote "Veata," Ivy, but since we all asked you, we think you meant to say, "Veatem?" In that case, our response is, "Anu be'seder."

Anyhow, last year most of us had 5 hours of homework each night. This year, we are down to about 1.5 hours, so we are ENJOYING LIFE!!! When I take Calculus in two years, I will sit with all the college students, Ivy. I will use the same book, take all the exams that they take as well. I think I will even get a Report Card from that "school." I may be able to get a ride on my school's van to get to my class, or else I will take a city bus! I think that would be kind of fun, really! I already finished Advanced Algebra I & II. This year I am taking Analytic Geometry and Trigonometry. Man, is it FUN!!! But, then again, all math is fun to me. I think I will take Finite Math next year for half the year but I don't know what I will take after that.

Yes, I suppose that it does suck that we don't have sports at our school, but we are such a small school that I don't even know if we'd be able to have teams, Ivy. After all, a lot of students choose not to play a sport, so we might not even be able to make up a team in many cases. And, since we are already associated with a university, I think we do have a pretty good sense of school pride here. So, what sport would we play if we did have sports here? This kind of stumped a bunch of us, because we hadn't thought about it! Okay, here's what we came up with; Levi- baseball, Avraham- football, Joseph- soccer, Yitzchak- football, Adam- baseball, Yaakov- football.

We have one class of say, French three days one week- Monday, Wednesday and Friday, and during that week, the Spanish classes (longer than the ones held each of the three days per week) are done on Tuesday and Thursday. The next week, they alternate with each other. Yes, I guess we do have an immersion technique here at home; we just are so used to it that we don't think about it, really. We are sort of familiar with Russian, a little bit, that is. Our Dad has a Rabbi from Russia who is his best friend. He has one son who is the same age as the twins. And, the Rabbi's family speaks Russian at home. We play at the Rabbi's house, and they have Shabbas dinner with us sometimes. So, we have sort of learned a little Russian, Ivy. But, we won't burden you with any of that here!

Thanks again for the New Year's wishes! Keep on "cracking those books" (This is Dad's favorite expression!), and good luck in the sports!

Hi guys,

Thanks for correcting me. I don't write in Hebrew much and I get confused easily when I do. At least it's transliterated and not in the normal script, you wouldn't be able to decipher anything out of that!

5 hours? Seriously? This year, I only get 1 hour and if I spend more time than that, it means I'm procrastinating on it. I'm glad you guys are enjoying life. It's cool that you actually get to sit in with them. Is it just for Calculus or could you take other subjects? Math at your school sounds...fun. Don't get me wrong. I'm good at it and I like it...in small doses. I'm more of a writing/history/humanities type of person. The only math I do like deals more with theories, instead of tangible results.

That's a good point. Do you play in Little League or are associated in any sports team outside of school? I play in a girls' summer baseball team as a pitcher, catcher, and sometimes I alternate with the center fielder. I don't know much about football or soccer, though. My school's baseball, softball, and soccer season just ended.

I hope to hear from you guys soon.

Yeah, for real- we used to get 5 hours of homework every night. It sucked! Even our parents hated it, because we never could play after school. So, a bunch of them made a big stir with the big-shots at school, and now we have it great!
Ivy, I can take any subject I want at a college level; Dad said that I should maybe just start with one subject, and the see about doing more than that after one semester. Actually, he is thinking about letting me take an English or Literature course next year!
We go to summer camp for a month every year, and then we also do a family vacation for a month. This year, we stayed at a house in Cape Cod for 4 weeks; fishing, swimming, sun & sand! It would be hard to be on a sports team during the summer. I (Levi) am taking a Kids Cooking Class that lasts eight weeks. (Benji got me interested in this!) It is one night a week. And, Dad is thinking about having some of us take a Karate class one session a week. That sounds kind of cool, but Dad says forget about being a Samurai or anything! But, he did get a brown belt when he was in H.S.
Well, keep at it in school, Ivy! Hope you did well in those exams; when do you get the results? Hope all is well at your house.

Hi guys,

Sorry I haven't posted in a while. I've been busy with schoolwork, extracurriculars, and family stuff. This is my first free weekend. How are you?

I can't imagine 5 hours. Was it about an hour of homework from each class or did one teacher give you like half of the night's homework? It's cool that you can take any college class. Will it count for credits when you get in college, so you could graduate early?

Wow, your summer seems busy. My family doesn't go on vacations a lot. We live near a large-ish city, so there's always something to do. It sucks that you can't do sports in the summer, though, but I think the vacations make up for it. Speaking about sports, I'm playing for a boys' ice hockey team now (Take that stereotypes!) One of the coaches saw me beat some guys the other day and said that I should try out, and I did.

Your family likes baseball, right? Well, it's postseason. What's your World Series match-up? The NLCS is doing a Game 6 against Giants and the Cardinals. Cards are leading in the NLCS 3-2. I want the Cards to win because they're my favorite team, but any team of mine always have notorious bad luck, so the Giants will probably move on. If you don't get this message, until after tonight and we're already in the WS, who do you think will win and who will be MVP? Karate is cool. I never tried it. What's the belt levels called again? For a crossword puzzle. Three letters and starts with a "d"? I think it's "Dan," but I'm not sure.

I will. I got my exam scores back about two weeks ago. My scores were great. 98th percentile rank in Reading and 99th in both Math and Science. Which doesn't make any sense, considering I missed more questions in Science than Reading.

Hope to hear from you soon.

Hi, Ivy! Kat de la?

When we got the 5 hours of homework each night, it would vary; usually it was about an hour per class, but when we had "special projects," it might be focused on one class more so than others. Thankfully, that has been changed this year, and our homework is far more manageable. Any college class we take will count for credit toward a college degree, as well as high-school credits. My Dad is now considering letting me (Levi) take either English or a Literature course next year at the University where our school is located! He won't make up his mind until around April, however.

Yes, our summers are very busy, but lots of fun! In two years, I will have my Bar Mitzvah and it will be at the Wailing Wall! But, my birthday is in April, so Dad said that maybe it would just be Mom, Dad and me for the Bar Mitzvah, and then we will all (or almost all of us) go over for a month in the summer. Most of us have already been to Israel at least once. As for the 2013 summer, my folks haven't decided what we will do for vacation yet.

That's cool (literally!) that you are playing ice hockey on a boys team! We all ice skate, too! We sure love seeing the Boston Bruins play!

You sure did great on your tests! My Dad said that the reason that you did as you did on the Science despite missing more questions might have been because of weighting on the questions. Don't know if he is right, though.

As far as the baseball World Series; we are poor sports! When the Red Sox team stunk worse than Limburger cheese this year, we simply lost interest in the whole sport! LOL!! Hope your team came out on top nevertheless, Ivy!

We are all happy that this site is back in operation, and hope that the Moderator stays healthy. We also hope you are happy and healthy, and are still doing well in school. Write when you can!

Hi guys,

Special projects don't seem appealing time-wise. It's cool that he might be letting you take an English or Lit class.

The Wailing Wall? Really? Is that going to be a tradition for all of your brothers? I've never been to Israel. My grandpa on my mom's side did when he was a missionary. I had my Bat Mitzvah last year.

Do you ice skate much? I'm more of a Blues fan myself, but with the lockout, I don't think neither the Bruins or the Blues will play soon. I don't know what position I'll do yet because all the guys are more bulkier. Definitely not goalie, that's for sure. I'm kind of worried that one of the big guys will ram me into the glass.

Your dad might be right about the tests.

Hey, at least the Red Sox aren't the Cubs or the Astros! The Cubs and Astros both lost more than 100 games during the regular season. The Cardinals lost 0-7 and I'm angry. They had a 3-1 lead in the NLCS and then they blew it in Game 5, Game 6, and Game 7. It's the pitching. It was a great season, though. After the 9-7 win with the Nats...Matheny, the new manager this year, did well for his rookie season, so I have high hopes for next year. The WS is between Giants and the Tigers. I don't like either team much, so I don't know if I'll watch it.

I hope that the Moderator stays healthy as well. As well as you guys. Hope to hear from you soon. I'll try to post more.

Just an update on baseball and hockey. The Giants look like they'll sweep and win the World Series. Their offensive and defensive have gotten much better during the NLCS. In hockey, I'm playing right wing in the third line. The coaches told me that I if I do well in the third line and could handle the big guys fairly well, then I could go on to second, or even first, line. For right now, I'm just being used as a fast right wing to wear down their defense in the middle of the game and maybe score some points.

Congrats to the Giants on the sweep. I guess it was sort of awesome, but we weren't real interested. Hockey is awesome! We love the winter because it means ice skating! Right wing is a tough position, Ivy. You must be, well, real tough. Once, we were at a Bruins game and Dad got us seats down real close to the ice. We were right next to the ramp that leads off the ice to the dressing room when they came off the ice between periods. THOSE GUYS ARE HUGE!!! Ivy, my Dad pointed out- and he was right, that even if you took off off the pads they wear, they are still just giants of muscle! he said that he thinks hockey players are the best athletes of any pro sport.I think he's right.

my Dad used to play pick-up games of hockey when he was growing up! There was a pond a few blocks behind his house, and he used to go over there and play, after they cleaned up the ice with shovels. My Dad said it's a New England tradition that every kid who grows up her plays hockey!

It's funny- we- and our friends- all ice skate, but no one roller skates!

I wasn't interested as well because I was disappointed that the Cards weren't in it, even though they were leading 3-1 in the NLCS at one point. It was cool, though, that their third baseman got 3 home runs in one game, just like Pujols did with the Cards last year. Hockey IS awesome - whether played or just watching. Because the part of the country where I live have moderate temperatures in the winter, we have indoor rinks instead, so we can skate whenever. It just looks awkward when we're go outside, wearing a heavy-ish jacket to go to an ice skating rink, in the middle of the summer!

I'm just a third-line right wing, though, so I just wear them down with speed. I'm not really supposed to ram into defensemen to score goals. I can take a body check or two, though. Besides, I'm in a U14 team, so the guys here vary. Some are 6 feet tall, stocky, but muscular and others are lighter and shorter than me. That won't be the case in a few years, though, but I enjoy it while I have it. :)

It's cool that your dad got you seats that close to the ice! Especially in New England. They're supposed to be more hockey-orientated and a ton of people must go. That's cool that he played hockey on a pond, though. Was it sturdy enough that it wouldn't crack?

It's a Midwest tradition for everybody to play whiffle ball outside - no matter what season it is in. Everybody around here can and will roller skate; hardly anybody knows how to ice skate!

That is awesome about your hockey playing, Ivy! It is amazing that you go up against kids who are 6 feet tall, too. Hope they don't slam you into the boards; that would hurt!

Our Dad knows someone who has season tickets, and sometimes Dad gets to use his tickets. There is really no possible way to get seats like that any other way, because they are all season tickets.

As for whiffle ball- I haven't thought about them for like ages! We usd to have one, but I haven;t seen it for the longest time. I should try to find it! LOL!

Wow, sorry I haven't responded to you guys in a while. I've been busy with school stuff and I'm supposed to be the head person to help organize everything. How's school and everything? I know you guys are planning to do a huge presentation after the break, so you're going to be busy as well.

They're not that bad. I mean, I'm in the third line, so the really strong players are gone by then. But it still gets kinda rough, especially when the game is close. I had a busted lip from the goalie, though. My goalie. The season is 4 - 4. We never lost badly, though. We're always off by 1 or 2.

That's really cool! It sucks that you might not get to use them because of the lockout. I didn't think it would go on for this long.

Whiffle-ball is amazing. The ball isn't as dense as a baseball, so any one can play and somebody will always hit it, unless the pitcher is amazing, so there's always action. It could screw up your swing in baseball, though. :/ It's more of a recreational thing, then a serious sport. Some other neighbor kids and I would always go to an empty area (our street is "new" and there are always empty lots or really grassy areas that can be found) to play soccer and whiffle ball because our parents would never let us play it around the houses.

Yeas, school for all of us is great, Ivy! We just got our assignments, and we are starting to get organized for our projects. We do a huge multimedia presentation using PowerPoint and more to do the presentation. It is a project that takes in all of our subjects, believe it or not; math, science, English, history, geography and more. A big part of the problem is getting organized- deciding who will do what and how, that kind of stuff. Anyhow, the Instructors kind of check in, but we also use parents to help us, too. But they are not allowed to do any of the work. They can only give advice.

We still think it's amazing that you play hockey! Our Dad had a Canadian friend in H.S. and he had already lost all his teeth playing hockey and had dentures. Our Grandmother went nuts when he stayed over for a week!

The lockout sucks! TV is so boring also! My Dad says the best athletes of all pro sports are hockey players. When you really look at how they play, you realize that is true!

Glad you have empty lots to play whiffle ball, Ivy! My brothers have broken windows playing ball too close to the house. Let's say that they learned painfully not to do that! It wasn't that they broke the window- it was that they were warned to not play so close to the house but didn't move farther away. They learned better- I think.

Good luck with school, and your math stuff!
