| It was harder die that to happen because it used to be cumulative score. In usa you can have split votes amongst the judges which can result in a 2nd or 3rd choice winning (NT) | No name (NoHost/216.208.243.153) | 16:35:12 03/24/26 Tue |

| LA in 2017 comes to mind. Double prelim winner, prepped from birth to be Miss America, then choked on the question… (NT) | I feel the romper answer cost her and her mom, the crown. She had to be the leader! (66-90-170-243.static.grandenetworks.net/66.90.170.243) | 19:49:42 03/24/26 Tue |

| I thought Betty Cantrell lost it with her answer. I knew Mississippi would be up there high despite the scratchy violin and she was perfection otherwise. The late night talk shows poked fun at Betty's answer. (NT) | No name (NoHost/212.15.84.153) | 13:05:29 03/28/26 Sat |

Well that's not always true. Case in point Miss USA 2001. Missouri had it until that sports question from Baldwin. That knocked her out of the top 3 and Texas came from behind to win. Ironically the exact same thing happen at Teen 96. Missouri got knocked out and Texas came from behind and won. It was the reason they started doing top5 (NT) | No name (NoHost/172.58.240.106) | 08:33:08 03/30/26 Mon |

In 2014 at USA Rhode Island was the one to beat but she choked on the question and she still managed to get 2nd runner up. She went on to win Miss Grand international only to be dethroned (NT) | No name (NoHost/172.58.242.255) | 08:56:11 04/05/26 Sun |

- Susan Anton's answer was widely regarded as outstanding at the time. She appeared on TV shows and in magazines and newspapers after the pageant was over. - I always thought it sounded very natural and off the cuff. It was very much like her real personality. Eldred pulled off a real upset that year. The two most dynamic contestants onstage were Anton and double preliminary winner Baumann. My theory is the judges were split on those two and that allowed Eldred to sneak in as winner. Although another theory is her answer in regard to her handicapped sister sealed the deal for her. (NT) -- No name, 15:47:40 04/17/26 Fri (47.sub-174-216-0.myvzw.com/174.216.0.47)
- Imagine how much of a curmudgeon you'd have to be to not find Susan Anton's answer adorable lol. Absolutely no pretense; just a real, funny moment. Would easily get points from me! This is the problem with the final question... it is too subjective to make much of a difference. The Larissa Meek answer was a trainwreck from start to finish... she asked for the question repeated, clearly had no idea what she was being asked, looked noticeably frustrated... it was deeply uncomfortable. The average MAO girl has had more than enough interview training to finagle her way through a confusing question and out to one of her talking points. So in addition to MAO not stressing the Q&A as much as Miss USA does, the girls are also - on average - better prepared, and that combination means precious few complete flubs. As has been mentioned, ironically, one of the few examples of a clear flub was Betty Cantrell. Maybe it had effected her if there were a final ballot that year... (NT) -- ...but there wasn't, and the question counted so little that it was no obstacle for her., 16:48:59 04/17/26 Fri (108-248-242-254.lightspeed.cicril.sbcglobal.net/108.248.242.254)
