Debbie Maffet, Miss America 1983 wore white for evening gown, swimsuit & talent at Miss America. She was crowned in a silver dress that she did not wear in competition. (NT) No name

I think it just depended on the year. Off the top of my head, I can think of 4 Miss Americas that were crowned in a different gown than what they wore in competition. Imagine how much better Texas could have done in the late 70's and throughout the 80's if they didn't have those hideous wardrobes. Hext's dress was similar to Cothran's, only in blue. Both beautiful dresses. The low point was Dana Roger's and the Big Bird dress. Sandi Miller was a tall gorgeous Amazon and could have pulled off most anything....except a circus tent with feathers. What were they thinking? Sandi Miller's Miss Texas wardrobe was primarily donated by drag queens. Another trivia note: when she won Miss Texas all four of her runners up had beaten her at local pageants during the year. She remains an ardent supporter of MAO/MTO and a myriad of contestants. She's the real deal! (NT) No name

To answer some comments: Her wardrobe was not donated by drag queens. BDon M chose those outfits, commenting to her if you are such a supporter of those (i won't repeat the word he used) then you're going to look like one. Got this straight from Sani herself. Her four runner ups beat her at all the local pageants that year. She was runner up each time, getting 1st runner up twice.
